My story

Dog Name: Ember Breed: Collie mix is our best guess Sex: Female Age: 3ish is the best guess her vet suggested Weight: 43 pounds Medical Needs: Ember is currently being treated for lymes disease (about half way thru the treatment) and requires 2 tablets of doxycycline every day until she finishes the prescription. She is scheduled to be spayed on 5/21/25 in Georgetown. Any foster to adopt families must live within one hour of Georgetown if applying before the appointment. Housebroken: Yes! She will pace and make little grumbles to let you know she needs to go Crate trained: Yes! (sometimes she needs a little encouragement (*cough cough* beef jerky) to entice her to go in but she settles immediately Good in the car: Yes, she doesn’t care to be crated in the car but loves to ride sitting next to her people. She does not move around much while in the car. Good on a leash: Yes but if she sees a squirrel you better hold on tight bc she gets the strength of an ox Energy level: Medium - she has the zoomies first thing in the morning and makes countless laps around our yard but after that she’s happy to lay around or be active chasing our resident pups and kiddos Need a fenced in yard: No but I would suggest leashed walks Dog Friendly: Yes If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No but I think it would be beneficial as she has really come out of her shell and shown us her true personality once she was introduced to our resident pups. Cat Friendly: Yes she loves them and gets upset and grumbles at them if they don’t play with her Kid Friendly: Yes If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any age with proper supervision. Ember resides with 5 kiddos aged 8-16 and interacts with my 2 year old granddaughter. The only “issue” we’ve noticed this far is if my granddaughter runs in the yard and Ember thinks she’s going too far, Ember will run behind her and bark at her and use her nose to push my granddaughter back to the adults. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? I know all of us foster parents say that we have “THE BEST” foster but Ember truly is the best. Ember was found in an abandoned burnt down home in WV with her litter of puppies. She has done a complete turn around. When we first got her, she was terrified of everything. People, animals, cars, loud noises, tools, she would hate leaving the yard for walks. Now, she’s a social butterfly, jumps to gives hugs, happily leads the way on walks, loves to cuddle but is happy to hang out by the door basking in the sun and her head tilt is to die for. Ember will make a great addition to any family. Fosters Location: Millsboro Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app. ##2363972##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ember, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
