My story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $850 Meet Aura – The 13lb Love Magnet with Built-In Happiness Mode  Age: 3–4 years old Breed: Poodle-miniature Schnauzer mix Coat: Non-shedding (aka: bring on the black clothes) Weight: 13 lbs of snuggly, squeaky-toy-chasing perfection If you're looking for a dog who's equal parts cuddle bug, social butterfly, and occasional squirrel enthusiast, allow us to introduce Aura—a pint-sized, curly-haired delight whose mission in life is to make everyone fall in love with her. And spoiler alert: she’s very good at it. A Day with Aura Looks Like This: You wake up around 7:30 a.m. to a polite little dog tail-thumping at the edge of your bed. She’s ready to start her day with a quick potty break, then it’s time for breakfast and lap snuggles while you pretend to read emails. Around mid-morning, you head out for a short walk, where Aura investigates the world with the kind of joy only a dog who really believes she could catch a squirrel exudes. During the workday, Aura rotates between your lap, a fluffy dog bed, and lightly judging squirrels through the window. She’ll occasionally try to start a squeaky toy party, or convince your other dog to join in. (She got her shy foster sister to play by day four—Aura is basically magic.) After dinner, it’s another walk, more cuddles, and maybe a few zoomies before winding down. She sleeps peacefully through the night like the little curly angel she is. Aura's Greatest Hits: Cuddler status: Expert. Will nap on your lap, lean into your chest, or rest her chin on your knee like she’s auditioning for the role of “most precious dog alive.” People skills: A+ socialite. She bonds fast and loves everyone—humans, dogs, probably even squirrels if they’d give her a chance. Play style: She loves plush squeaky toys and is learning fetch, which mostly involves her looking adorable while sprinting in the general direction of the toy. Dog-friendly: Absolutely! She got her aloof foster sister to play, which is basically wizardry. Cat-compatible? She was curious but polite. With the right intro, probably yes! Potty trained? 90% there. Mostly outside, with a couple polite pad uses. She learns fast. Leash skills: Enthusiastic with light twirling, quickly improving. Aura Would Be Perfect For: Someone who wants a built-in best friend. She’d thrive in a home where her people are around often, or who love bringing a well-behaved little companion along for coffee runs, errands, or working from dog-friendly patios. She’s up for adventure—but only if there's a nap at the end. Whether you're single and need a snuggly shadow, a couple looking to add joy to your day, or a chill family with time to give, Aura is ready to love you like you invented treats. Fun Fact: Aura once convinced a famously “no thanks” resident dog to play within 4 days. She’s a love magnet, a social sorceress, and a tiny joy factory all rolled into one perfectly-groomed, brush-friendly package. Adopt Aura—because she’s not just friendly, she’s pure sunshine with paws. Let her bring her glow to your life. May 22, 2025, 11:11 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Aura, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
