My story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $750 Meet Sugar Cube – Your New Sweetheart in Dog Form   Sugar Cube is a 2-3 year old 12 lb Maltipoo with a soft, non-shedding coat and a heart even sweeter than his name. He’s one of the kindest, gentlest pups we’ve ever met — the kind of dog that makes you smile just by being in the room.   Each morning around 8 am, you’ll find Sugar Cube quietly waiting in his pen at the foot of the bed, tail thumping softly, ready for a morning stroll and his special breakfast (he’s on a chicken-free diet, with tasty wet food added to help him gain weight). His day is delightfully mellow — filled with naps, toy box adventures, and the occasional “fox pounce” onto his favorite stuffed animal or grape-sized puff ball (yes, it’s a cat toy… and yes, it brings him great joy).   He’s a go-with-the-flow kind of pup — happy to lounge on the couch, entertain himself while you work, or join you for an evening walk. Sugar Cube walks beautifully on leash, is respectful with other dogs, and while he finds squirrels intriguing, he’s easily redirected. He’s done well with other pups (even ones with big personalities!) and has learned to coexist respectfully with the resident cat, who made it clear she’s the boss.   Though a bit unsure the first couple of days, Sugar Cube settled in quickly and blossomed into a sweet, affectionate companion. He’s not clingy, but he’ll check in on you throughout the day and loves a good cuddle session — especially at bedtime. He adores hopping up next to you for some snuggles and would love to sleep on the bed if allowed. His eyes say it all: “I can’t believe I’m this lucky to be loved.”   He’s housetrained (with just one minor hiccup when another dog peed indoors first — can you blame him?), does well in a crate when left alone, and doesn’t bark much, unless he’s excitedly playing or trying to get the cat’s attention. He’s still learning a few boundaries — like not chewing on zippers  — but is easily redirected and responds well to gentle guidance.   Sugar Cube would thrive in almost any loving home — solo or with other pets, kids or adults. He’s just a sweet, adaptable little guy who wants to be part of a family. He’s playful but mellow, snuggly but independent, and has the kind of gentle soul that makes your home feel instantly warmer.   Favorite things about Sugar Cube:   His hilarious “fox pounce” during playtime   The way he gently lays his head on your chest after a long day   That grateful, soul-searching gaze that will melt your heart   If you’re looking for a best friend who’s as sweet as sugar and twice as charming, Sugar Cube might just be your perfect match.May 22, 2025, 4:10 pm
