My story

Foxy is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Foxy comes to us from a rural rescue in south Texas. She was found in the area, outside in the February chill with her 8 puppies, and taken in to the nice rescue where she raised her babies and was well taken care of. Because adopters are scarce where Foxy is from, she and 4 of her babies made their way to us in late April. Foxy was fortunate enough to have a wonderful foster home waiting for her up here. There, Foxy has been living her best life with a couple, their two dogs, and one of her pups- Alastar- who also went to foster with her. Foxy has never had an accident inside, so her fosters consider her to be housebroken, but she is let outside frequently (especially since they are fostering a puppy as well!). Foxy does well free roaming overnight, and has been left alone crated during the day out of caution, but was not a fan of going in the crate. Once inside, she did not make a ruckus, but she was clearly unused to it and her fosters suspect she would do fine if left out during the day as well. Foxy has met kids ages 3-11 and did very well with them! She is a calm girl, but was not bothered by their energy as some calmer dogs might be. Foxy's foster mom writes, "Foxy was a wonderful mom to her pups, and now she’s ready for a forever home of her own where she can enjoy the good life! Foxy loves meeting new people, getting pets on her ultra-soft golden fur, and catching sniffs in the breeze. Foxy has been in her foster home where she’s been a very easy houseguest who seems potty-trained, friendly, and pretty low maintenance. She loves peacefully looking out the window or enjoying the nice spring weather sitting on the patio." Foxy is ready for her adoptive home now, and we are so happy to have been a stop on her journey! Please ask about her today. Foxy’s adoption fee is $250. This animal is spayed and up to date on core vaccines. Foxy is Heartworm positive and is undergoing treatment with us. Heartland will cover the cost of treatment until she is Heartworm negative. Heartworm is not contagious to other dogs or people; it is a mosquito-borne disease. It is both preventable and curable. Foxy will receive three injections to treat her Heartworm, the first of which was on 5/6/25. She will receive two more treatments on back to back days-- on 6/3/25 and 6/4/25-- at our shelter with our veterinarian. Foxy will need to be on exercise restriction for at least 4 weeks after finishing treatment; this means no running, swimming, rough-housing, and just regular short walks! That will complete the treatment, but she will need a quick retest at the adopter's vet 9 month post-treatment to make sure that she is Heartworm-free.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Foxy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
