My story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Coco is a beautiful long hair chihuahua.  She is approximately 3-4 years old and weighs about 6 pounds.  Coco is a sweet dog who came from a heartbreaking hoarding situation that involved around 40 chihuahuas.  Pixie Mamas helped local authorities rescue some of these dogs and put them in foster homes. While some were more socialized, Coco is fearful of people and tends to be skittish. She prefers the companionship of other dogs, and she currently resides in a foster home with two other chihuahuas from the same difficult past, along with the resident dogs.   Coco’s foster mom has dedicated a lot of time and effort to help her over the past year, but we genuinely believe she is ready to move on and find a forever home where she can continue to learn and grow. Coco wears a leash in her foster home, which allows her foster mom to catch her and hold her each day. If you enter the room, Coco will go to the other side as far away as possible.  If you stay in that room, she will settle down but her eyes are always watching you.  Although she still feels a bit uncomfortable being held, there are moments when she bravely places her paws on her foster mom's legs, wagging her tail and seeking affection. Occasionally, she even offers a sweet little kiss, showing us that there is definitely hope for her! For Coco to flourish in her new home, we require that she have another small dog as a companion. This friend will not only help her build confidence but also support her in learning to trust people more fully. When she’s around her foster pals, you can see her excitement as she plays and wrestles with them and she thrives on their companionship.  Coco loves treats, especially cheese and chicken! She prefers to take them from the floor rather than directly from her foster mom's hand, but eventually will take them when not given to her. She mainly uses pee pads in her foster home, and it’s important that her new family can accommodate this, as she was never really accustomed to being outdoors in her past life.  Coco is hesitant about going outside and will rush back in whenever she gets the chance.  Her foster mom takes her outside daily to help her get more comfortable with it. If you are taking her outside, a fully fenced yard will be required (no invisible fences).  Coco will do better being gated in a room with another dog rather than being in a crate, but she will use a crate if needed.  Coco's favorite moments are spent cuddled up with her furry friends in front of the heater, waiting patiently for her treats. Due to her nervous nature, Coco will not be placed in a home with children under 14 (preferably with no kids), as the extra activity may make her feel even more anxious. We want to be transparent on what Coco is like and not sugarcoat it. Coco deserves a loving and safe home, and we are fully dedicated to finding the right match for her. Her life has already transformed for the better, away from the chaotic conditions she once endured, and we hold onto the hope that her true safe haven is waiting for her. It's important to recognize and accept Coco for who she is, understanding that she may have limitations. We know that there is a person or family out there who is ready to embrace her sweet spirit and give her the chance she truly deserves. We require that a martingale collar be used at the time of adoption. If you do not have a martingale collar, you can purchase one from Pixie Mamas for an additional $10. This requirement is in place to ensure the dog's safety and security. Coco is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped and tested neg. for heartworm.  Her adoption fee is $400  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 8, 2025, 11:49 am
