My story

Meet Danny, a sweet boy who spent his days shaking in his kennel, looking for his owner. Danny was surrendered to the shelter when his owner experienced a health issue, and by the looks of it Danny was loved and well cared for. Often times, those are the dogs that struggle most in this loud shelter environment after they've been in a safe home. Luckily Danny was able to go to foster care where his true personality has been shining through. If you're looking for a goofy, active, loving, and playful pup, Danny is your boy! Email akilashanmugaraj93@gmail.com if you're interested in setting up a meet! Foster Notes: Notes 6/5/25: Danny is such a special boy and an absolute blast to have around!! He loves to play- it’s his favorite activity. He loves to zoom around chasing after balls outside in the yard or after toys inside. I would love to see him go to a home with a yard as he loves to run! Inside for enrichment he loves his treat dispensing toys and kongs which keep him plenty occupied. I find giving him 2 short walks and 2 rounds of enrichment per day has been the key to keeping him from chewing in the home. He’s extremely food oriented which makes training a breeze! He now knows ‘sit’ ‘stay’ ‘down’ ‘touch’ and ‘check in’ which he learned easily. Danny LOVES people- he makes you feel like the best person in the world when you walk into the room. He’s very open to handling from strangers even welcoming them into our home, and has done well meeting kids! With that, Danny can be somewhat of a pitbull in a china shop, and has sometimes knocked us over when playing or zooming. For kids, he should go to a home with dog savvy kids or older kids so he doesn’t accidentally scare them by loving them too eagerly! He does great in the crate and is completely fine being left alone for 6-8 hours. If he’s out of the crate he will be destructive to things like couches or cushions so we’d recommend crating him when alone! Danny has been very eager to meet our resident dog which she isn’t too happy about so we’re going slow with intros, but Danny’s body language has been loose, wiggly, and interested! He’s such a goofy boy and such a bright light in our day! He loves to sunbathe and roll around in the grass. If you’re looking for a medium- high energy young pup with lots of love to give, Danny could be your boy. Cat test 5/27/25: Cat test: he did well! He was interested but not overly so, curious, able to be redirected. Notes 5/21/25: One week into foster care and Danny has transformed into a curious, energetic, and goofy boy with a lust for life! It's been a whole lot of fun having Danny around as we don't usually foster such young pups! Danny LOVES to play. He will play with any kind of toy especially if it squeaks. He loves chasing them and gets the zoomies carrying them around. He is pretty high energy- he absolutely loves our yard and takes advantage of the space by zooming around. He has definitely shown some puppy antics with play where he'll jump up on me or accidentally run into me, so just needs some training on containing all that excitement! Danny loves to chew and has enjoyed kongs and other enrichment toys- he should go to an adopter who can give him plenty of enrichment and an outlet for this puppy energy. Danny came down with a URI at the beginning of the week but has been an all start patient. He takes his pills easily with hots dogs and is very food motivated overall. He knows 'sit' and we've been working on 'stay' which he's catching onto very quickly! Danny lovessss handling and is very people oriented. He greets you like you're the most special human in the world! He has taken to my male fiance very easily and loves all over handling from both of us. Sometimes this silly boy climbs up on top of you (literally paws on your head) because he just wants to be so close to you, but he's caught on to the command 'off' really quickly! He doesn't have much sense of personal space but who needs it anyway. Danny has really come out of his shell and is not nearly as fearful as we expected him to be! He is pretty neutral to sounds in the home and doesn't make much noise. He is very crate trained and hasn't had an issue being alone while he's quarantining from his doggie cold. When we're walking, he'll cower back if a loud truck goes by on the road but he's learning that he's safe as each day goes by. Such a sweet lil pup! Notes after 2 days in foster 5/15/25: Handling: Danny is SOOO affectionate! His absolute favorite place is in your arms. Danny loves cuddling up close to his human, taking belly rubs and all-over handling. He’s been patient for getting his paws and bum wiped, and let me put a raincoat on him! Behavior: Danny is an INCREDIBLY submissive and fearful boy. His instinct is to hide when things get scary. In the shelter Danny spent his days violently shaking and hiding under his cot. I had to carry him in and out of his kennel. When we got home the first night he remained so fearful but sooo sweet. He needed encouragement (and some leash pressure) through every doorway and on the stairs. Then slowly a curious boy started to emerge! He is playful and enjoys cautiously exploring. He loves squeaky toys. He loves giving you face kisses and perching himself on the window sill to look out. He still hides in his crate every time anyone enters his room, but then carefully comes to you for pets 🥹 Danny was tested in the shelter playgroup and was nervous and a bit avoidant of other dogs but showed no reactivity. He’s housebroken and crate trained. Shelter Notes: Per staff 5/11: Yesterday I sent Danny on a day trip and he did great! He didn't walk over to me for leashing but when I came to him and leashed, he walked right out with me. I took him outside before dressing him up and he appears housebroken! He tolerated all handling getting dressed but did tremble when standing still. I went with the day trip foster to the car to make sure Danny got in okay. He put his front paws in on his own then just needed some help fully jumping in. Upon return Danny seemed much more relaxed but was nervous walking back to his kennel again. However he went right in with no issues. Behavior Eval 5/11/25: Kennel Presence: Danny is such a scared boy. It really broke my heart. When I approached Danny, he was laying on his bed shaking head to toe. I tossed some pepperoni towards him and he licked one of the pieces then just went back to shaking. Handling: You can tell he is just very scared, but not reactive at all and seems to be quite submissive. Based on his body language, I entered his kennel and slowly pet him for several minutes. He gave some tail wags when I did this so clearly was comforted by human handling. We lay there for a while, petting him and I tried multiple times to get him up and out of the kennel without any success. Gentle with taking pepperonis, but didn’t end up eating them. Finally based on body language, I picked him up and carried him out of the kennel, which he allowed, although he was still shaking. Has a very upset stomach, could be related to stress. Outside in the play yard he was still shaking slightly with alert ears and a neutral tail. Came to me for pets and took pets all over. Seemed too stressed to take treats. Went into volunteer office and very handler oriented! Really leans on his humans. Just wanted cuddles as he was very scared but leans on people. Not interested in toys or treats that I saw. Ended up carrying him almost all the way back to kennel but he saw the kennel door he jumped out of my arms to go back in. Leash: Nice on leash with minimal pulling Color: Double Blue due to being so fearful that he had to be carried in and out Per day trip 5/10: He was very comfortable to get in and out of the car. He was quite relaxed almost instantly. He was shivering the first 2 minutes when I got him but that stopped right after he sat down in the car. He enjoyed being off the leash in my fenced yard. He started exploring the surrounding quickly and became quite playful. He was happy to meet new people and was quick in warming up to them. He has this habit of following people around and likes to stay close the them even when off the leash. He doesn’t pull the leash too much and also seems to be relatively unbothered by the presence of other dogs. He was happy to accept treats but didn’t come off as extremely food driven. Play group 5/9/25: Danny was steerable at the gate and very fearful. he was nervous of everything with a lowered body and tucked tail but sought comfort in the handlers. another dog entered the yard and he began loosening up. he was trying to engage in play but was still nervous, play bowing and then running away Per Staff 5/9/25: Approach the kennel and he was laying on the bed, looked up at me and came off of the bed when I tossed in a treat and ate the treat. Open the gate and showed him the leash and he went back to his bed and laid down with head low, furrow brow, hunched body. Will try again later.
