All Aboard!!! Animal Rescue Passenger Archie Waiting for a Forever Home! ADOPTION FEE: $450 Meet Archie: This little man is shy but such a lover. He takes a little longer to adjust but when he does he is your best friend! From his current foster: (8/21): "Little Archie is a sweet but very scared little man who is working hard on gaining confidence and trust. He seems to be very one-person focused and he will do the choosing instantly. Here, he has chosen my husband to attach to, and when he's with him, he is a totally different dog, happy, confident, loving, wiggly, goes belly up and has no issues being picked up and handled etc. He even lets me pet him while in my husband's lap, which is highly unusual for a Chi! As a result though, with me, he's very nervous because he just wants to be with my husband. I still cannot touch him while he's on the ground. So I've kept him on leash mostly so that I can catch him without stressing him out and he's made some great progress with that as long as I don't make too much eye contact or reach for him too suddenly. He happily will follow me around the yard and in the house while on the leash. And if I put a blanket next to me on the couch he will eventually reluctantly snuggle. Left to his own devices, he is not particurly trustworthy with potty training, but having him on the leash has helped greatly with that. The lower his stress level, the better he does, he always goes on the grass right away when we go out in the mornings and after meals, and he will also use a wee wee pad pretty well. So he's only had one accident here but we have been VERY diligent about it and he's making great progress. He does ok in the crate as long as he can't see "his person". But he is a bit of an escape artist, constantly looking for a flight path, so needs a secure area! I have two dogs, one 12lb and one 50lb. He does absolutely fine with both of them, gives polit sniffs and mostly coexists with the little one, and he even follows the big one around and lays in the yard with her, I think she makes him feel safe. I've even seen hints of playing starting to develop. But mostly he's not interested in toys or treats or other dogs, he just wants to snuggle his person all day every day and he would be thrilled with life. I can see him struggling internally, he has moments where he wants to be my friend, but his fear gets the better of him. He's working very hard though and making slow steady progress. He just needs someone with a lot of patience and truly give him the space to come to you while slowly building his confidence."
