My story

Richie arrived at ACCT Philly on May 1, 2025, after being found as a stray confined in a front yard. Though initially nervous during intake, Richie quickly began to show his sweet and playful nature as he settled into the shelter environment. Since arriving, Richie has blossomed into an outgoing, wiggly, and affectionate companion. He greets visitors at the front of his kennel with a wagging tail and is easy to leash for outings. Richie thrives on human interaction—he loves running from person to person for attention, eagerly shows off his "sit" and "paw" tricks, and takes treats gently (sometimes even catching them mid-air!). This gentle and goofy boy has a deep love of toys, often pushing them toward people to initiate play. Richie has also shown enthusiasm in playgroups, especially enjoying rough-and-rowdy play styles and splashing in the pool. While generally social with other dogs, he can sometimes become aroused or overly pushy, so he benefits from structured and guided interactions. Overall, Richie is a joyful, fun-loving dog who is ready to bring energy and affection into a home. This guy absolutely loves chasing tennis balls but has been very stubborn about bringing them back. Today we had a breakthrough and he figured out that if he wants to chase the ball again, he needs to give it to me! Richie dropped the ball at my feet several times in a row and also traded balls for treats or other toys. He brought one of the balls back to his kennel for safekeeping. Richie is a smart boy so I’m sure he’ll be able to learn lots more things in his furever home. Per volunteer 5/10: Richie is a fun-loving, tennis ball fanatic. He constantly wagged his tail. Once in the play yard, he was all about the tennis balls. Someone had just brought out about 5 new ones to the play yard. He seemed overwhelmed with all the tennisballs and wanted to play with them all at once, often trying to pick more up while already having one in his mouth. He is so sweet, goofy, and a good time. 05/06/2025 Playgroup Notes: Not steerable, aroused, sexually motivated, too pushy at times in the yard 05/06/2025 Per volunteer 5/5: Richie is a very happy and playful boy who enjoys playing with balls and tugs. He appears friendly towards other dogs, and was not reactive at all towards another dog that he encountered across the fence. 05/03/2025 Playgroup Notes 5/3: Steerable. Rough & Rowdy playstyle. Likes the pool. Took other dogs corrections in stride. Was reactive through the fence for a new male dog coming in for an eval so he was removed. 05/02/2025 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Richie KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Richie came up to the front with a wagging tail and was very loose. He was easy to leash and came right out. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls moderately HANDLING: In the room, Richie was super social and wiggly. He never stopped wagging his tail and ran from person to person. He allowed all handling and remained loose with us. He knows sit and paw, also double paw but just might be him jumping up. He is a very gentle and goofy boy, a real treat to be around. Richie takes treats gently and can even catch them in the air. PLAY: Engaged in play but prefers toys TOYS: Loves all toys – will push them into you COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS: Gold 05/01/2025 5/1/25 11:13 am dog seem calmed at first but started growling at officers, control stick used to get dog on truck, walked to and got into truck, going straight to a kennel to give dog time to adjust per senior officer Medical Notes 05/05/2025 Tech Exam: Intake - Medical Weight: 63.4 lbs Body Condition Score: 5 - Ideal Assessment: Microchip Found?
