My story

Padma is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Scroll through her pictures to see her cute video content! Beautiful Padma came to us from one of our shelter partners in rural Texas. She and her 6 siblings wound up at a sanctuary there when they were just a few weeks old. Sadly, a good samaritan found the puppies near their mother, who had passed away after being hit by a car. All of these puppies were lovingly raised by caring people and around other animals and it shows-- four of these pups have made their way to Heartland! Two arrived in February and have been adopted, and Padma and her sister arrived in late April. Padma is truly the sweetest soul. She is gentle, reserved, and docile. If you give her a little bit of love she will snuggle up to you and give you dainty little kisses on your chin if you let her! We had the chance to watch her meet an infant and a toddler and she was so sweet to both! She is not a jumpy or wild girl by any means. She will be a great family pet, or companion for any person at any stage of life. Padma was adopted recently, and returned due to it not being a good match. Padma lived happily among three cats, but her adopter struggled to walk Padma on leash in her neighborhood, since she did not have a yard in which to let her out. When Padma would go to the dog park, her entire demeanor changed and she became so happy and confident again. We sometimes see this with dogs who have been raised to "free roam" in a rural area-- leash walking takes a lot of time to get used to especially when a dog raised among other dogs suddenly becomes a solo dog. For this reason, we do feel it is essential for Padma to have a home with another dog as well as a yard. Prior to being adopted, Padma was thriving in a foster home with a couple and their Golden Retriever. They described her as "so sweet and curious." Padma was crate trained and also trusted to free roam for a couple hours at at time, and did not make any mischief. Since they are on an extended trip, Padma's current foster is another awesome couple who have three dogs. Padma is doing great with them as well, and in these homes, due to having a yard, she has not had any potty accidents inside. Padma remains the sweetest and most gentle girl, a lover of dogs, cats, and all humans, and we know her perfect match is out there! Padma is such a good girl. We hope you will inquire about her today! Padma’s adoption fee is $300. She is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Padma, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
