My story

Ireland has been with us since February, and we can’t figure out why she hasn’t found her forever family yet — because she’s truly a gem of a dog! This sweet, cuddly girl is happiest in a dog park, at doggy daycare, or snuggled up in her foster dad’s lap. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and would love to have a canine companion in her forever home. Ireland is a darling 1 year old, 30 lb Jack Russell Terrier / Cattle Dog mix. We can't speak to the accuracy of this breed mix (although we can see both breeds in this beautiful girl)...what we can speak to is her sweetness and her value as a wonderful family companion. Ireland is a bit shy at first—she just needs about 5-10 minutes to warm up to new people, and then she’s all tail wags and affection. She’s been thriving in foster care, where she’s shown how smart and adaptable she is. Like many dogs, she may bark when she sees other pups out on a walk, but her fosters are working on it with treats and positive reinforcement—and she’s improving beautifully! Off-leash, at a dog park, or at home, she is amazing with other dogs and plays very well. She loves making doggy friends! From Ireland's foster: * * * * "Ireland is an incredibly affectionate and social pup who absolutely loves other dogs! She thrives in off-leash play, does amazing at doggy daycare, and loves playing and cuddling with her foster brother. She shares the house amazingly with my dogs -- they can play all day long and cuddle together all night long. Ireland is a great dog and a very quick learner. She is SO smart! She took really well to crate training and sleeps in her crate at night and goes in it when we leave her home. She is fully potty trained! Walks can be stressful for her sometimes, but she is getting more confident daily and does super well when we bring treats on walks. She would love a home with a yard that she can play in instead! She would also love a home with a dog friend -- she really really REALLY loves other dogs and playing with them. She is very very affectionate with people as well, and adores my boyfriend and I and is a major cuddler." * * * * Farfel's Rescue has found over time and thousands of rescue dogs that families that attend virtual or in-person training classes with an approved positive reinforcement / force free trainer generally keep their dogs for life. Dogs that don't receive the benefit of proper training and socialization have a much higher risk of being rehomed or far worse, being abandoned. There is a bonding that occurs between a dog and their family through the training process that can't be duplicated. It also teaches behaviors that enable a pup to go out into the world with excellent manners that create a respectful relationship between dogs and their humans. It is for all these reasons that Farfel's isn't willing to adopt to a family that doesn't choose to participate in this training relationship. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person positive reinforcement/ force-free trainers in your area. We envision active, dog-crazy retirees for our sweet Ireland. She would respond so well to the love and attention that this group offers. Ireland would also do well with a younger family that works from a home-based office to love her up periodically throughout the day. We feel that our sweet girl is too sensitive to spend long hours alone while her family works full-time outside of the home. Ireland will be up to date on her vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. She has also been spayed to fulfill our promise to work toward a euthanasia-free future in the canine population. Ireland is available for adoption now. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet pup. If interested in this gorgeous and cuddly best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Ireland please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ireland, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
