Chonky Kong

My story

    Let me introduce you to my foster, Chonky Kong.  Chonky is a 2-year-old, 60Lb, stumpy-legged meathead with a loveable, goofy, playful personality perfectly matched to his exceptionally good looks. I mean, this handsome devil is supermodel material all the way.  This kid offers the true bulldog experience. No human, large or small gets treated differently by Chonky. He is in your face, on your lap, and he’s gonna love you. And he’s gonna love you so much it hurts. Sometimes, as much as he tries to contain himself, his excitement gets the best of him and he gets mouthy, wanting to kiss on sleeves, hands, ears - whatever he can get his grubby little mouth on. But it’s all out of love. He is the quintessential ‘bull in a china shop’.  Let’s go over some more of his many endearing qualities… House trained? CHECK!  He will let you know when he needs to do his business. And when he’s done, he does his happy dance and runs back inside.  Leash trained? CHECK!…well, mostly.  He enjoys his leash walks, and most of the time, he just goes with the flow. But if he sees a squirrel, hold on tight so he doesn’t take you for a ride. However, he is very responsive to correction.  Cats? Unknown. Let’s go with a No. No seems like a solid plan.  Home Recommendation? Due to his typical ‘bulldog’ habits, he would do best in a home with no young children. We wouldn’t want him to knock them over, steal their blankets and toys, and run around while they cry about losing their favorite stuffed animal. In other words, he shouldn’t be in a home with children younger than 15.  He would do well in any home and doesn’t need a fenced yard as long as he gets regular walks.  Dogs? He was enjoying the company of other dogs before he came into our Rescue. However, this boy has absolutely no boundaries, takes no cues, and just goes right in, so the other dogs don’t enjoy his ‘in your face" meetings. However, we are working on teaching him introduction manners so he can get past this.  Chonky is a total goof. There’s not too much he takes seriously, except for treats. Treats are serious business. He will do just about anything for a treat. He is so treat-motivated that with positive reinforcement and consistency, he will have good manners in no time.  Chonky is a ‘Netflix and chill’ dog. He LOVES his people. He doesn’t need a crate, and when left alone, will take a snooze on the couch until you get home. Overall, he is an easy dog, sweet, happy, snuggly, and inot overly energetic. He loves playing and is a bulldozer, but he also relaxes and naps a lot.
