Name:  Trigger       Best Guess for Breed:   Australian shepherd and Bernese Mountain Dog mix Best Guess for Age:  3 years, 6 months as of 04/24/2025   Gender:  Male Approximate Weight:   54 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen Trigger with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters. Currently Living At: DC area foster home Special Adoption Considerations: Trigger was heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Trigger is Looking For: His forever home! Through no fault of his own, this fluffy sweetie ended up in the shelter. He's eagerly looking forward to once again having his own humans for long sniffy walks and romps in the park and all the adventures they can dream up.  Trigger would be happiest with someone who is home most of the day. He's not a fan of crates and would impress Houdini with all the ways he's found to get out of them. He also can be a big barker when left alone for too long. Trigger is an active boy who likes to rough house with other dogs. He's a 'tag, you're it' kind of playmate. To keep Trigger happy, plan on giving him the opportunity to run each and every day.  Trigger has those soulful eyes that suck you in and he is such a huggable floof - he's got that solid presence. And he promises to always keep that solid presence right by your side - he wants nothing more than to be a loyal companion and know he's safe and loved in exchange. What do you say?
