My story

If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind dog who knows exactly what she wants and isn’t afraid to tell you, Yam might just be your perfect match. She’s bold, nosy, full of charm, and fiercely loyal to her people. Once she decides you're hers, you’ll have a devoted sidekick who follows you from room to room—not to help, but to supervise. Yam must know what’s going on at all times. Privacy? Never heard of it.She’s got a little diva energy, a stubborn streak, and a strong sense of personal boundaries—especially around her food and prized possessions. Yam resource guards, so she’s looking for a home that understands and respects that side of her. She’d do best with experienced dog owners who can give her structure, patience, and space when needed. While Yam can have doggy friends and has done well with dogs of various sizes, she’s not a fan of sharing the spotlight. She’d be happiest as the only pet in the home where she can soak up all the love and attention without competition. And speaking of soaking up—Yam lives for a good sunbath. Catch her stretching out in a sunbeam, eyes half closed, looking like the queen she is. A cozy spot in the sun is her happy place, and she’ll make sure you know it.Despite her sassy quirks, Yam is incredibly loving once she bonds. She’s playful when the mood strikes, hilarious without trying, and always manages to keep you smiling. And while she might not always agree with your plans, she’ll always be by your side, offering loyalty, laughs, and the occasional side-eye when you forget who runs the house.Yam is one of those dogs who leaves a mark—on your heart and probably on your couch too. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: acskc.org/adoption/adoption-applicationOnce your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet!
