My story

Dog Name: Grady Breed: Cavalier King Charles Mix Sex: Neutered Male Age: 2ish Weight: 30 lbs. Medical Needs: None Housebroken: Yes, no accidents. Crate trained: Grady has a pen that he eats, sleeps, and stays in when foster parents are away. Good in the car: Yes. He needs to be leashed/harnessed since he likes moving from back to front, and then hanging out the window with ears flying. Good on a leash: Pretty good with a prong collar. Grady does some pulling when excited, but overall a good walking buddy. Energy level: low/medium. Grady is content to snooze by your feet or on your lap. However, he enjoys a brisk walk when going outside. Need a fenced in yard: No, as long as he has frequent leashed walks. Dog Friendly: Yes* Please see belowIf yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No. He would be fine being the only dog to give and receive all the love and attention. Cat Friendly? No. He likes to chase them. A firm “No” and slight tug on leash has worked well in preventing it. Kid Friendly: Yes, however he tends to be a jumper-upper when being introduced. His little body cannot contain all the excitement. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? 12* Please see below Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Grady is super sweet and overall very well-behaved if given a strict structure. Due to his guarding of resources, Grady will need a shutdown period and taught that you have dominion over all resources. His foster mom has successfully managed his guarding by giving Grady meal-size portions and putting his leash away after his walks. When these strategies are followed, Grady is a happy, content dog. *Due to his guarding issues, he will need to be fed in his own space away from other dogs, and children need to understand not to remove his food. Until he finishes it, he still wants it and will guard it. He will warn you with a low growl if you get too close to his leftovers. He is fine when being given treats with other dogs, he just wants his fair share. If a crate treat lasts longer than expected, just wait him out until he finishes it. Grady would make a great addition to a family that has time to teach him you are the provider and controller of all good things. He respects a firm voice and hand when correction is being given on walks.
