Juliette came to ACCT Philly after six years in a loving home, but unfortunately her family could no longer keep her due to concerns with other pets. As she’s gotten older, Juliette has become less tolerant of sharing her space with other animals, and her owner, concerned for everyone’s safety, made the difficult decision to surrender her. In the home, Juliette was described as very affectionate and crate trained, with a medium energy level. She knows several commands and was mostly housed outside. Her former family said she barked at people and animals, and due to this, they found it difficult to walk or handle her comfortably. At the shelter, Juliette has shown some fear-based behaviors with new people but has also displayed moments of openness. With calm, slow approaches and a gentle voice, she begins to relax and engage. Once outside, she’s been tolerant of handling and even affectionate when comfortable. She has also shown friendly behavior during dog meets, walking past other dogs without issue and engaging neutrally. Juliette would thrive best in a quiet, adult-only home where she can be the only pet and have patient adopters who will go slow and let her open up in her own time. She's shown potential to connect and enjoy companionship when given a bit of space and understanding. Behavioral Notes 04/19/2025 Per volunteer: Gave her 2 little treats, looped her and exited the kennel with no issue. Presumed housetrained: peed as soon as outside. No engagement with toys in the play yard. Another volunteer had another dog on a walk — Juliette showed no reactivity on opposite side of the fence, and no issues during subsequent face meet. On the way back in, passed a large dog — also nonreactive. Returned to kennel without issue. Didn't do a lot of handling, but tolerated some calm handling. 04/18/2025 During intake I approached her to see how her behavior would be towards me and she growled at me a little. I used baby voice and slow approached and she began to clam down a little and wag her tail. She allowed me to scan her a little but only a few seconds until she began to become nervous again and growl. 04/18/2025 Owner further elaborated Juliette barks at everyone and all animals. She stated "It made it hard to do anything with her. I couldn't pet her, I couldn't walk her. And I didn't want to just keep her in a crate."
