A Volunteer Wrote: Anubis is the MOST beautiful, MOST tender-hearted smoosh-face who is so very, very scared to find himself in the shelter-and was likely scared before he found himself here, judging from his worried demeaner. However-and here is where you can save the day, and a life, and make yours so much better in one fell swoop: He adores people. The second his walker took him out to the back and sat, Anubis was pressed up against him, so eager for affection and love, burying his head in his arms and then gazing up with what sure looked like gratitude. Please, won't you show Anubis what a beautiful life might look like? What a gift to you both!My Ideal Home: Anubis thrives with structure and routine. He will do best in a home with an experienced owner who understands his need for guidance and positive reinforcement training. Due to his high energy and alert nature, a home with a securely fenced yard or an adopter committed to daily exercise would be ideal. Anubis may struggle with being left alone for long periods, so an adopter who works from home or has a flexible schedule would be a great match.Good with Kids?Anubis previously lived with young children and was friendly and outgoing. However, due to his resource-guarding tendencies and occasional fearful behavior, we recommend a home with older children (13+) who can respect his boundaries and help with training.Good with Other Dogs?Anubis has shown mixed behavior toward other dogs. While he can be friendly and outgoing with familiar dogs, he may bark, growl, and lunge at unfamiliar dogs. He would do best as the only pet in the home and should avoid dog parks. Slow, structured introductions with experienced guidance may help him build positive relationships with other dogs over time.Leash MannersAnubis is still learning leash skills. He may bark and lunge at strangers or other dogs when out on walks, so he will need positive reinforcement training and a front-clip harness to help manage his reactions. He benefits from a calm, confident handler who can provide direction and reassurance.Overall HealthAnubis is a healthy young dog with a high energy level. He will benefit from daily mental and physical enrichment, such as long walks, interactive toys, food puzzles, and training sessions.Behavior DeterminationAnubis has been assessed as a Level 3 behavior dog, meaning he needs an experienced, patient adopter who can help him navigate his fears and challenges. He may struggle with separation anxiety, resource guarding, and on-leash reactivity.
