My story

Meet Athena (aka Runa), a stunning 1.5 year old spayed female shepherd/husky mix with a soft, fluffy coat and soulful eyes that will melt your heart! She is a medium sized dog, weighing about 43 lbs. Athena was adopted as a young puppy and was sadly returned to the rescue (through no fault of her own) after her family realized they did not have the time to devote to a young, energetic dog.  Athena is a very friendly, goofy girl who wants to befriend everyone she meets, however she is still learning manners and boundaries, which she was unfortunately not taught as a young puppy. Because of this, she is a bit like an overgrown puppy and doesn't quite know how to "dog". She is extremely smart and is receptive to training, but she needs someone with the time and patience to work with her individually and help her learn to be the best doggo she can be! She has been doing a substantial amount of training with her foster family, and has made HUGE strides from where she started.  She loves other dogs, but she plays rough and can be a bit much for some dogs. She is also not great at interpreting other dogs' social cues (which goes back to the whole "not knowing how to dog" thing). Due to her exuberant spirit, she would do best in a home with older kids 8+, as she may unintentionally knock over small children. She has not been cat tested, so we are unsure how she would do with cats.  Athena would thrive in a home with a fenced in yard where she can run free and burn off some energy! She's looking for a forever home where she can be part of the family and receive plenty of love, attention, and exercise. If you're an outdoor enthusiast or enjoy activities like running, hiking, or simply playing fetch, Athena would love to be your adventure buddy! She is also a great candidate for agility or training games.  She is medically up to date, housebroken, and crate trained. As a small rescue that does not receive government funding or grants, we rely on adoption fees to stay afloat. Adoption fees help cover the following: vaccinations, wellness exams, heartworm/4DX testing, parasite prevention, spay/neuter (age-appropriate), microchipping, transport expenses, and other rescue-related overhead/administrative costs. Paws Rescue League, Inc is an all-inclusive rescue that does NOT only rescue puppies and young, healthy dogs.  We make a point to also rescue seniors, dogs with special needs, moms, and other “less desirable” dogs, knowing that we will likely incur higher veterinary expenses and that these dogs may take longer to get adopted.  As such, an individual adoption fee is not only reimbursing PRL for expenses directly related to that dog, but it is also helping us to continue our mission of taking in dogs that would otherwise be too much of a financial burden to save.
