My story

Sweet Mabel appears to be a purebred Redtick Coonhound (aka American English Coonhound), though she's a big girl for her age! She's around six months old and 40lbs, and significantly underweight. She's had a rough start in life, but she's so sweet and loving to everyone, and other dogs. She doesn't seem to have been inside much, and she's doing pretty well, considering. She's a persistent counter surfer-- if you know hound dogs, you know "persistent" is a nice way of saying "stubborn"! She takes correction well, and she'll come out of her shell and thrive with someone who can patiently guide her, and another dog to play with. She should have a fenced yard or someone who will commit to always leash walking-- hounds cannot hear when their nose is working, so they usually don't listen off leash! She is very loud for a good while when she's crated, but she eventually settles. We don't suggest homes shared walls for this reason, though we expect improvement as she adjusts to being a pet rather than a stray dog. She goes out to potty most of the time-- she has access to a fenced yard much of the day, which helps. Now that she knows humans can be really good, she would prefer not to be alone alllll day, if possible. She's only been off the street for a few days and she has already decided the couch and snuggles are way better. Mabel is so sweet and seems so grateful. She'll require patience and consistency for a while, and she'll grow up to be a gorgeous, Very Good Girl. Mabel has been wormed and had her first shots; she will be spayed and microchipped soon. If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting one of our pets, please visit our website and fill out an application: www.northmeckanimalrescue.org

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mabel, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
