** $185 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** Cali ACCT-A-216637 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Cali must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER or ADOPTER by SUNDAY, APRIL 20TH at 10AM. Should Cali’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Cali is a sweet, gentle soul who’s feeling overwhelmed in the shelter environment. Found running loose near an Acme Market on April 1st, Cali may just need a little time, patience, and a gentle hand to help her feel safe and loved again. She tends to be fearful both in her kennel and out in the yard, often retreating to the back of her kennel or keeping to herself. But for those who take the time to get to know her, Cali reveals a different side — a soft, affectionate pup who leans in for pets, loves snuggling up close, and has a special fondness for peanut butter bones, soft squeaky toys, and Kongs. Once outside, she walks beautifully on leash and will quietly stay by your side, often gazing up at you with those soulful eyes. While she can be unsure with new people at first, she warms up with patience and a gentle approach. Cali has also met a few dogs at the shelter and allowed polite greetings, though she generally prefers calm, respectful companions. After spending time with volunteers who adore her, it's clear that Cali is an easygoing and loving dog who just needs a little time, a quiet space, and someone to believe in her. Due to her length of stay, Cali is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, foster, or adopter. Per volunteer 4/13: So so so sweet! Per volunteer 4/12: A little hard to leash but very easy after that. Just scared. Opens up a bit in the yard and is a total velcro pup. Per volunteer 4/10: Easy going + loving. Just wanted to sit with me and watch people. Per volunteer 4/9: I’ve spent a lot of time with Cali since she’s come to ACCT. She’s definitely come out of her shell since the beginning. She will now lean in and solicit pets, she loves soft squeaky toys and kongs. Her favorite treats are her peanut butter bones. She walks excellent on leash and most times she walks by my side. She’s an easygoing dog. A staff member did try to approach her today to give her some pets, she did back away at first but once the staff member got low to the ground she slowly creeped up while checking in with me. She allowed the staff member to pet her with no issues, she just seems to need some time to warm up to new people which is okay! We did try to attempt a dog meet with sticks but he was really stressed. They both did go up to each other and sniffed each other and walked away. I do think if she does go to a home with another dog than a dog that is calmer and her pace would be best. Per volunteer 4/8: Cali is a sweet gentle girl. She LOVES Kongs and soft toys! Per volunteer 4/6: Cali presented in the back of her kennel, tremoring when I opened her kennel. She ate some treats that I tossed in and, after a few minutes, allowed me to leash her and take her out. Cali went to the bathroom several times after we exited the building. She was very easy to walk as she never pulled and walked along my side. After she warmed up, Cali showed that she is an exceptionally sweet, calm, and affectionate girl. Whenever I sat, she spent most of her time with her paws on my lap or staying between my legs gazing up at me for more attention. Cali is such a wonderful girl, and I'm sure she'll continue to build her confidence and show off her amazing personality. I had to step into her kennel to get her to return. Per volunteer 4/4: Shy to get out! Awesome! Per staff 4/2 during playgroup: Fearful in kennel and in the yard, mostly avoidant. Received greetings and did not really interact. Showed no interest in interacting with other dogs in the yard. Per volunteer 4/2: Cali is super sweet, just shy! She needs a little motivation to go back in her crate but after a few minutes she will walk in herself. MEDICAL: On 4/15, Cali had a recheck including a review of her urinalysis, an ultrasound, and a sediment cytology. The urinalysis revealed some protein, blood, and had a slightly low pH. Her bladder walls were thickened. The cytology did not reveal any bacteria or epithelial cells. Overall, this could be caused by chronic inflammation, polyps, or potentially transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). It is recommended that she get a BRAF test to assess the possibility of TCC. 4/14 urinalysis: USG 1.048, leukocytes (-), nitrites (-), urobilinogen normal, protein +, pH 5, blood moderate, ketone negative, bilirubin negative, glucose negative. Free catch - no crystals found this time. On 4/7, Cali was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested negative for pneumovirus and is scheduled to complete the doxycycline on 4/20. On 4/4, Cali was spayed and received an abdominal radiograph which did not show any bladder stones. On 4/3, Cali received a vet exam due to having blood in her urine. She appeared in good health overall, but was diagnosed with a UTI and was prescribed amoxiclav. 4/3 urinalysis: leukocytes (-), nitrites (-), urobilinogen normal, protein +, pH 7.5, blood large, ketone negative, bilirubin moderate, glucose negative. IH urine sediment - 4+ struvite crystals, 2+ cocci. During her intake exam on 4/2, Cali’s teeth had slight discoloration and tartar, but otherwise appeared to be in good health with her ears, nose, and coat being clean. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
