** $2,945.09 in pledges for the rescue that pulls ** ** NEW VIDEO 4/24! ** ** Extended ** Teddy Garcia ACCT-A-216589 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Teddy Garcia must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, APRIL 26TH at 10AM. Should Teddy Garcia’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Teddy Garcia was surrendered on April 3rd, alongside his dad, Max, due to a housing situation that no longer allowed pets. Since arriving, Teddy has been friendly with people and has been described as a big teddy bear. He has a lot of energy and can be a bit excited when out on walks, pulling on leash. With structure, exercise, and consistent enrichment, Teddy has the potential to be a joyful and devoted companion. Teddy is looking for a home without cats and any children in the home should be over the age of 15. While his owner noted that he could be defensive towards dogs other than his dad, he did well meeting other dogs during playgroup. If you have any other dogs at home, please bring them along for a meet. Due to his length of stay, Teddy is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, foster, or adopter. Per volunteer 4/18: Teddy Garcia is such a great dog! He was sitting very calmly in his kennel. He was SO easy to leash. Outside he was really excited! I love that when he’s not sure what to do his default is to sit down for a reset. Teddy Garcia is very friendly and appreciative of pets. I had hoped to take him out with his dad but his dad is in isolation, I hope they may be reunited soon. Teddy Garcia saw Bob the Builder and tried to catch up to say hello. Per volunteer 4/15: Super cute! Very good boy! Per volunteer 4/13: Likes to be pet. Knows sit. Pulls a bit on leash but settles down well. Per volunteer 4/8: High energy guy! Was super excited to go out of the kennel but let me get the leash on easily and sat right next to me when he got out. He did pull a lot but I'm sure with training he will calm down. He calmed down a lot when I pet him as well. He snuggled up to me when I asked to pet him. Even when he saw a dog and got a little overexcited, petting him and being close to him helped him chill out. Per staff 4/5: KENNEL PRESENTATION: Teddy G. was at the front of his kennel with a wiggling loose body, soft eyes and was excited to leave the kennel. He was relatively easy to leash as I quickly looped him as soon as I opened the kennel door. Once secured he came right out. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls moderately HANDLING: In the room, Teddy was a big teddy bear. He is full of energy and loves to play. He is a bit mouthy when overstimulated and can be overstimulated quickly. He began whining while he got a little jumpy and walked around freely to regulate himself. He allowed all over handling and was a ball of energy. He takes treats a bit snatchy at times. He is a sweet boy and a cuddle bug but needs to run all his energy out. PLAY: Engaged in play TOYS: Interest COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS: Exp. gold Per staff 4/5: Bright, alert, and responsive, anxious, hates restraint. Per staff 4/4: Teddy was curious of the dogs with a confident trot around the yard. He was playful and tolerant of the wilder dogs and even took intense corrections perfectly -- removing himself and walking away. Per staff 4/4: Teddy and Max came out for some play time as they were stressed and nippy with another in the kennel. Outside they played rough and rowdy and were running all throughout the yard. A husky that was being surrendered was near the gate and Teddy became reactive to him as the husky was grabbing onto the gate. Staff removed the husky from the vicinity and Teddy remained worked up. We let him decompress until he needed to be returned. He got nippy while trying to be returned by the handler and nipped at her inner thigh. Per his owner surrender notes, “Teddy is Scrappy Doo from Scobby Doo he reminds me of that lil puppy.” They had him for 6 years and noted he was high energy, crate trained, and mostly housetrained. They said that he connects more with humans than other animals and had attacked a cat before. He knew the commands wait, paw, sit, stay, stop, and go up stairs. He would pull a lot on lash, enjoys and toys or treats, and was very excited and jumpy when meeting strangers and children. They noted he would get defensive towards dogs and doesn’t like other animals. Overall, they said “He has a sassy, funny, energetic personality, he is a sweetheart just wants love, he loves his dad and always wants to sleep next to him.” MEDICAL: During his intake exam on 4/5, Teddy was noted to be stout, weighing 67.5 pounds. He appeared to be in good health overall with the only concern being moderate tartar on his teeth. He was neutered that day. Teddy was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on doxycycline. He tested negative for pneumovirus. On 4/11, his URI signs seemed to be worsening, so doxycycline was discontinued and he was prescribed clindamycin and enrofloxacin. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
