My story

**Please read Gus’s FULL bio before applying. He will require multiple meet and greets in the Orlando area prior to adoption** Hi! My name is Gus, and I’m a 3-year-old Dachshund blend weighing 22 lbs. My past has shaped me into a unique little guy, but the wonderful people who rescued me say I’m special in my own way—and perfect just as I am. Now, I’m searching for an equally special, dog-savvy home that can provide me with the love and security I need.   General Behavior: Adorable Gus is a curious pup, but he approaches the world with caution. He feels safest in one familiar space and takes time before he’s ready to explore new rooms. With a naturally timid personality, he thrives with someone who allows him to come to them on his own terms. Underneath it all, he is the sweetest boy!   Likes & Dislikes: Gus enjoys lounging in his own space, whether it’s a cozy dog bed or a comfy spot on the couch. Occasionally, he’ll grab one of his toys for a little extra comfort. He loves sniffing around the yard and playing with other dogs. While he’s not a fan of being petted, he does like to sit beside his trusted human.   Training: Gus has been learning the ropes of “How to Dog” in his foster home and has made great progress! However, he’s still not comfortable walking on a leash and much prefers staying home. He also doesn’t travel well in the car.  Medical: Gus is a healthy boy! He just needs his regular monthly heartworm and flea prevention. He also takes over-the-counter calming supplements to help manage his daily anxiety.   Other Animals: Gus gets along well with other calm, laid-back dogs and even does fine with cats!   Children: Because of Gus’s timid nature and need for a peaceful environment, he requires a home without young children. Older kids (10+) who understand his need for space—especially in the beginning—would be just fine.   Home: A fenced-in yard is required for Gus, as he isn’t comfortable walking on a leash. He needs a secure outdoor space where he can explore and take potty breaks while being supervised. His ideal family will be patient, willing to go at his pace, and allow him to build trust on his own terms.   Grooming: As a short-haired pup, Gus has simple grooming needs—just regular baths and nail trims.   Overall: Gus is a sweet, smart, and quirky little guy who deserves all the love in the world, given in a way that makes him feel safe and comfortable.   Do you have the dog-savvy home Gus is looking for?  Then visit our website www.PoodleandPoochRescue.Org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with the foster family for more information if it’s a potential match. He is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and he’s neutered. His adoption donation is $250.  ##1996311##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Gus, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
