** $700 in pledges for the rescue that pulls! ** ** New Behavior Notes & Video 4/25** Wilt ACCT-A-216212 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Wilt must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, APRIL 26TH at 10AM. Should Wilt’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Found as a stray on March 27th, Wilt is a curious fella who enjoys exploring his surroundings. He’s food-motivated and knows how to “sit,” patiently. While he can be a bit spooked by loud noises, he quickly regains his confidence. Wilt takes treats gently and loves leaning in for pets, even settling into laps for extra affection. Outside in the play yard, he enjoys running after a ball but doesn’t seem interested in keeping it. Wilt eagerly greets people with sniff inspections and occasional happy jumps. While he isn’t too interested in toys, he couldn’t resist a piece of bacon! Wilt is looking for a loving home where he can continue building confidence and sharing his sweet, affectionate nature. Could that be with you? He has done well meeting other dogs, so if you have any at home, please bring them along for a meet. If there are any children in the home, please bring them as well. Due to his length of stay, Wilt is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, foster, or adopter. VIDEOS: NEW! Per staff 4/25/25: Took Wilt out with a new gold volunteer - he was eager to get out of kennel and jumped up on me as soon as he got out of kennel and pulled heavily through the kennels. Once outside and in a yard, he calmed down and gently solicited pets, sat for treats, took them gently, and enjoyed just strolling around the yard. We had him out for about 10 minutes and he relaxed so much outside compared to how he was getting out of his kennel. He walked very nicely back into the shelter and calmly went back in. NEW! Per staff 4/22: Playgroup; Mid-high wags, upright posture, ears up at the gate. Steerable with both spray bottle and shake can. Rushed into yard to greet Quincy - bounced around greeting other dogs, play bowing and zooming, soliciting rough/rowdy play from Chase. High tail throughout all greetings. Midnight Moe reciprocated greetings. Per staff 4/21: Good on walk and on leash. Per volunteer 4/19: Wilt was eager to come outside in the sunshine and play with the lone stuffie in the iso yard. He was eager for cuddles, affection, and attention. He got tired quickly but rolled around for some belly rubs. Very good boy. Per volunteer 4/19: Little mouthy, sweet. Per staff: Little mouthy, good on walk. Per volunteer 4/14: Wilt is a charming young man who loved doing tricks for treats, already a master at sit and find it. He can be a bit jumpy but is food motivated and willing to learn! He loved to lean in for more pets, Wilt is the best boy Per volunteer 4/13: Very interested in other dogs, took treats gently. Per staff 4/13: Playful boy, can be mouthy - bring toy or extra leash. Per volunteer 4/11: Sweet, loves treats. Per volunteer 4/6: Very interested in scents/marking, not much play, sits ok, not super treat motivated, will plant if finds smell, interested in other dogs. Per volunteer 4/5: Not a lot of interest in handlers or toys but loved exploring the yard and plenty of tail wags. Per volunteer 4/5, playgroup: Rough and rowdy play. Steerable. Kept pursuing a large male dog that took issue with him. Was able to be steered away. Per day trip 4/5: Wilt was a very good boy on his day trip today. He loves to smell everything. He pulls a little bit on the leash but I’m sure a good adopter could correct it over time.03/30/2025 per day trip: I took Wilt out for a walk today and got so many great pictures! He was unbelievably sweet, goofy and really well behaved. As his description said, he loved to root around and sniff. He probably would've done it for 2 hours. He pulled moderately when there was a dog or person he wanted to say hi to, but was calm and walked well if it was just us on the trail. He loved his treats and sat well. There was a dog that was off leash and ran up to him. He was excited and friendly, he did not misbehave at all besides some pulling, all he wanted to do was sniff and lick the dog. He is such a good boy!! I hope he finds an amazing home! Per volunteer 4/4: Super curious, takes treats well, overall pretty chill. Per volunteer 3/28: KENNEL PRESENTATION: When I arrived at the kennel, Wilt was sitting up on his cot. I opened the door and he approached. His ears were up, he had soft eyes and his tail was neutral. I was able to easily slip the leash over this head and remove him from the kennel. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls moderately at times. HANDLING: In the yard, Wilt did a lot of sniffing and exploring. He seemed to be hunting down treats that were left behind which he successfully found. His body language was largely loose in the yard and had a neutral or low wagging tail. He seemed spooked by loud noises caused by the wind, cowering and flinch briefly. Wilt took treats gently from the handler and seemed very food focused. Wilt knew sit and was able to hold his sit. Wilt accepted pets all over, showing little sign of discomfort. Wilt leaned in for additional pets and sat in the handler’s lap. Wilt would chase after ball if thrown but never took possession. In the volunteer office, Wilt seemed to have more spunk. Wilt went up to greet other volunteers. He gave them all sniff inspections and would jump up on them. He was not interested in the toy in the volunteer office. A volunteer gave him some bacon which he seemed more snatchy with then regular dog treats. We returned to the kennel with no issue. PLAY: Little interest. Would run after the ball but never took possession. TOYS: Little interest. Per staff 3/28, playgroup: Takes corrections, initially tense, humpy, rough & rowdy play. MEDICAL: On 4/7, Wilt was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. He tested positive for pneumovirus, but retested negative on 4/16. He completed his medication on 4/20. During his intake exam on 3/28, Wilt weighed 52.9 pounds and was noted to be a little thin. He had a little tartar on his teeth and redness on his gumline, a dirty coat, and a small wound on his left front leg. Otherwise, he was noted to be in good health. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
