Boomer has the heart of a hero. This nearly-4-year-old Walker Hound marched out of our shelter two years ago and straight into a loving home with his military dad. Life was good: squeaky toys, long walks, snuggles on the couch, and lots of love. But recently, his dad received deployment orders, and with no one else to care for him, Boomer came back to us.What breaks our hearts is how he came back. His dad drove cross-country from his duty station because in the whirlwind of preparing to deploy, he had one last mission: making sure Boomer was safe. His final act before leaving was bringing his best friend back to the place he trusted most to find him another loving home.Boomer is taking it all in stride, because that’s who he is. He’s steady. Kind. Full of joy. He greets each day with a wagging tail and an open heart. He’s lived with children and other dogs, and he’s a gentle, playful companion with both. He plays with kids like he knows they’re smaller -- he’s patient, gentle, and seems to take real joy in making them laugh.Boomer’s the total package: handsome, housebroken, crate trained, walks well on a leash, and a master of basic cues. Boomer already knows “sit,” “shake,” and “down”-- now he just needs to learn “you’re home.” Boomer is the kind of dog who makes a house feel like home. Whether you’ve got a pack of kids or just a quiet seat on the porch and a good arm for throwing squeaky toys, he’s ready to love you with everything he’s got.Boomer's first mission was being a loyal companion to his dad. His next? Stepping in as your everyday hero -- the one who chases away loneliness, keeps boredom at bay, and lifts your spirits when life feels heavy. Come meet Boomer any day (including weekends & holidays) between 9am and noon at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton. He’s been a trooper, now he’s ready to be your hero. His dad’s final mission before deploying was bringing Boomer to safety. Now it’s our turn to carry the torch, and bring this loyal trooper home.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
