My story

Lou is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Scroll through his pictures to see his cute videos! Back in February, we spotted Lou looking so incredibly sad in his kennel down at Chicago Animal Care and Control. He immediately perked up when he was outside, and the first thing that struck us when he stood up was how tall he is! Lou is a looong and lanky boy, and so incredibly handsome! We could not believe this calm and gentle boy had been at CACC for a few weeks already. He was brought in as an owner surrender on Valentine's Day, sadly, and had been waiting for a rescue or adopter since. Like most dogs who are brought into CACC, Lou quickly developed a case of kennel cough, adding to the sad sight we saw. We brought Lou back to Heartland that day, and he loved the quiet of our kennel, and all the love from our volunteers and staff. He was adopted shortly after, but recently returned to our care when his adopter’s circumstances changed. No fault of his own! We couldn’t bring this sweet boy back to a shelter, so a loving foster family, with 7 and 9 year old kids, opened up their home to him. Lou loves other dogs, and really wants to play with them. He particularly wants to roughhouse, like many young dogs do. He has little to no accidents indoors, and is crate trained, too!. He gets to roam the mudroom with more space when his foster family leaves for longer periods of time, and he does very well being left alone. Lou is a playful fella. He plays well in the yard, and loves to do zoomies with a toy in his mouth. He is a fantastic fetch player and gives up the toy easily for another throw. He LOVES stuffies, and throws them for himself. Lou can be a little shy when meeting new people, but he warms up fairly quickly. Once he is comfortable with a person, he will greet them with love and enthusiasm. Lou's foster mom writes, "Lou is a very sweet and playful boy. He has tons of energy and would do best in an active household. He loves to cuddle and thinks he is half his size. His favorite place to sit is in your lap! Lou is a very fast learner and has been able to pick up new skills very easily. He is also very quiet and only whines a little when you first leave a room or if he is desperate for something. We love this beautiful boy and cannot wait until he finds his forever home!” Lou is ready to meet you! Lou’s adoption fee is $300. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lou, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
