My story

ABOUT MINNIE Need a goofy companion? Meet the magnificent Minnie! She is a 3.5 year old shepherd/lab mix that loves to play. Minnie came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Louisiana when they no longer had space for her. During her first few days, she was her sweet, loving self but quickly became overwhelmed by the shelter environment. She began jumping and pacing in her kennel, causing us to worry for her well-being. We reached out to our volunteers to see if someone would be willing to give her a break from shelter stress. Minnie has since been very active in our Doggy Day Out program, which gives her the opportunity to decompress and explore the world outside of the shelter. Minnie has even enjoyed a sleepover in an employee's home. Not only did she appear house-trained, with no accidents in the home, but also slept soundly in her crate overnight! She quickly showed off her goofy, playful side. Whether it's a game of tug with you or entertaining herself, she is always up for some fun! Minnie loves to chew on hard bones and rubber balls. She is a fast learner and knows basic commands. Since she is food and toy motivated, the possibilities are endless with her! If you're interested in Minnie, you are welcome to submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is first-come, best-match basis. We are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in a specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children's and other dogs, must come for the meeting to ensure its a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fee's include the animals spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
