Nicholas adores the small dogs in the home and now loves his large foster canine brother. Good with cats? Yes! He’s been very sweet with the cats in his foster home. Good with kids? Not at this time. Nicholas has not quite grasped that humans—especially the small, fast, squeaky ones—are friendly. Right now, he’s still convinced that children might be oversized squirrels in disguise. Energy level: Medium. Nicholas loves a good play session with his stuffed animals and enjoys bouncing around when he’s feeling safe. After some fun, he’ll happily curl up and relax. Behavioral Needs: Nicholas had a rough start to life. He came from a severe hoarding situation where he had little to no positive contact with people. Because of that, he’s deeply unsure about humans and still navigating the idea that not all people are something to fear. He’s currently at the “I’m not running away, but I’m definitely not running toward you” stage of healing. He’s learning, little by little, what safety feels like. A calm, confident dog sibling or multiple dog siblings may help him continue making progress. What Nicholas needs is a deeply special human who is: Patient Quiet(ish) Gentle in both voice and spirit Willing to go at a pace slower than dial-up internet Emotionally prepared for the moment when he finally asks for pets—and your heart completely explodes. Animal Characteristics: Nicholas is a tiny survivor with a huge heart hidden beneath layers of fear. Every day he’s learning that he can exhale a little more.
