This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information.Scooby is on the At Risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. What my friends at ACC say about me:I lived with children in my previous home.I have lived with cats in my previous home.I have lived with dogs in my previous home.I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing.I have been known to shower my favorite people in love!I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.I am looking for a home with a patient person.I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.Scooby is not open to interaction at this time and does not currently tolerate petting or handling and is really struggling in the shelter environment. Because this cat previously lived in a home for some time with a mixed known history, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, home with adopters who are willing to work with a cat who needs time and patience to help him/her adjust to their new home. Even though his eliminating outside the litter box may have been due to being intact and with other cats and sharing one litter box the adopters should still be well counseled on this issue.A volunteer writes: If Scooby could've rolled his eyes at me, I think he would've but, then again, I guess he did it cat style. Sitting on top of his den and seeming to stare at the floor, Scooby furrowed his brow and waited for me to leave. I've heard he's extraordinarily playful - pouncing after his toys, chasing after moths, and even splashing around with water, but he wasn't so interested in playing with me and quickly pulled his head back to decline my offer of pets. I sat down to read him a little of my book hoping to make him feel a little more comfortable with a visitor, or at the very least just try to entertain him. It worked a little because Scooby seemed to momentarily pause his grumpy face to listen closely. He might be a little unhappy now, but he's more open minded than he looks. He was brought to us with another cat after having moved around a little bit and is looking for a steady place to land. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 7.7 Age: 4yrs 1mths 1wks
