My story

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information.Shawna is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and is deteriorating in the Adoptions room. She is now displaying signs of frustration and overstimulation. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. What my friends at ACC say about me:I have lived with cats in my previous home.I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.I would do best in a home with only adult humans.A volunteer writes: Shawna helpfully tried to open her cubby door by reaching her paw through the opening. Her adorable outstretched paw may just be the perfect introduction, but there's always a lot happening in the Care Center and it seems to be a lot on dear Shawna. Once the door was fully open, she popped her head out to scan the room with big eyes and perked ears in her sincerest attempts to understand everything. While Shawna's someone who seems to want to say hello, her efforts to catalogue each new sight and sound can be quite time consuming. Eventually, she settled a bit and leaned her head into my hand. Shawna very sweetly asks for a slower approach when she meets new people and when I took the time to follow her lead, she seemed to open up quite a bit. When all the sights and sounds she'd catalogued became a bit too much, Shawna returned to her cubby. She's hoping to find someone who understands that making new friends can take time but is always worth it. Primary Color: Tabby Secondary Color: White Weight: 9.6 Age: 2yrs 2mths 3wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Shawna, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
