It was easy to tell that this family had been through a lot. Disturbingly underweight, even for a mom that had recently been nursing, her natural sociability and eagerness to enjoy newfound human companionship was stifled by her flinchy nervousness and constant tiptoeing appeasement. With the unconditional love she was shown every day, Whitney blossomed immediately, leaving her fear in the past with everything else that happened to her. She loved all her office dog sessions, and they helped her confidence grow. There's no more flinching at reaching hands, only tongue flopping and tail wagging at the opportunity to play. When she's excited, she breaks into a toothy grin, whole body wiggling with joy. This girl loves love and is pretty much a sponge, soaking in gentle attention and just luxuriating. Whitney is doing great getting to know other dogs. We thought she was dog selective at first, but she's gaining more and more friends as we continue to work with her. Whitney has had limited experiences with kiddos. During a recent meet-and-greet, we observed that while unsure, her overall desire is to connect and to please. She warmed up with enough time and patience, but because of her sensitivity, we tend to think she'd feel a little more at ease with kiddos that are out of the toddler stage. While on a doggy day out, we learned lots about Whitney! She rides in the car well. She ignores pedestrians in favor of whoever is handling her. She loved her first pup cup, and she was described as sweet and loving! She dipped in the creek and thoroughly explored the park. She's such a fantastic dog to spend time with on a short-term basis, so we can only imagine her potential once she finally gets to go home. Whatever situation she came from, we're lucky to have her now, and we'll be making extra certain that as she moves on from her time with us, her new family treasures her and treats her right. It's what she deserves.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Whitney, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
