My story

Kid friendly: NoDog friendly: Yes, veryCat friendly: NeutralSize: Medium-Large (55+ lbs)Energy level: HighLeash skills: Not bad, excited pullerKeeps a clean kennel: Yes!Don't let her beautiful looks fool you. Nikita, a 5 year old Spitz-type* mixed breed, is no princess. This longhaired beauty is a mud-romping, talkative, wrestling, energetic spitfire of a dog. Our playgroups are divided up into play style and energy level, and Nikita is actually one of our only true "Rough & Rowdy" players. In fact, she plays so hard she broke a tooth once!! Nikita is dog friendly, doing well with small, large, male, and female dogs. Some dogs who aren't into the wrestle-mania lifestyle may find her offensive. She tends to ignore cats. She was transferred from Carthage Humane Society at the end of October 2024 after a 500+ stay at their shelter. While she is full of quirks (can be body sensitve, no kids, high-energy, talkative, etc.), we were certain that her stunning good looks would find her a home rapidly. However, here she sits over 6 months later, spending her golden years in the four walls of a kennel. Nikita would thrive best with a couple or single adult owner who likes to stay active and get dirty. She'd be the ideal travel companion or adventure and hiking buddy. We are looking specifically to match her with someone whose lifestyle matches her energy level, as we have tried her in a quieter foster home and she unfortunately was not the right fit. She is a strong dog, so someone that doesn't mind some eager leash pulling is preferred. *Spitz is an umbrella category for many dog breeds that share common traits such as pricked ears, a double coat, a tail that curves over their back, almond shaped eyes, and a pointed muzzle. Most are Arctic or Siberian in origin. Examples of more well-known Spitz breeds are Huskies, Malamutes, Samoyeds, Akitas, Shiba Inus, Pomeranians, Shar Peis, Chow Chows, Akitas, Norwegian Elkhounds, Schipperkes, Alaskan Klee Klais - between 50-70+ dog breeds could be placed in the Spitz category.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nikita, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
