My story

Huck is a sweet, energetic but shy boy who warms up with time and truly enjoys petting and play once he feels safe. He came in as a kitten with his mama, Pinkie, and is now the last of his little family still waiting for a forever home. With patience and love, Huck will become a loyal, lifelong companion. He’s eager for a committed adopter in a pet-friendly home where he’ll be accepted as part of the family—and never left behind again. Please please make sure your home or lease allows pets and that you and your family are prepared to welcome a new cat. Before bringing them home, have the essentials ready: food and water dishes, cat food, litter and a litter box, cozy bedding, carrier and a designated veterinarian for ongoing care and vaccinations. For any new pet, we recommend following the 7-3-3 Guideline to support a smooth transition. This thoughtful framework offers a realistic timeline and helpful tips for pets who may need extra time and patience to adjust. By providing structure and understanding, you’ll give your new companion the best chance to thrive—and become a beloved part of your family.7 Days to Decompress: When first brought home, your new cat will need a quiet space—like a small room—where he/she can feel safe and observe from a distance. Establish consistent routines, such as feeding, litter box use, and quiet interaction, to help him/her settle in.3 Weeks to Start Adjusting: Over the next few weeks, your cat will begin exploring more, recognizing your presence, and getting comfortable with the household’s rhythm. During this time, gentle interaction and positive reinforcement will help build trust.3 Months to Fully Acclimate: It can take up to three months for adopted pets to feel completely at home, confident, and bonded with their new family. By this time, their personality will shine through, and will likely be showing their affectionate and playful side regularly.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Huck/ Earl Grey, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
