My story

Meet Khakee! 9-year-old Khakee spent most of his life in the backyard, never invited inside to be part of the family and never given the care he deserved. He was never taken to the vet for medical attention, and his life was a far cry from the love and comfort every pet deserves. But on February 13th, when Khakee became a Frosted Face, we promised to change all that. We vowed to give him the life he’s always missed out on – a life filled with love, warmth, and the comfort of a real home. Could that home be yours? Thankfully, over the past 3 months, Khakee has been in a wonderful foster home where he’s discovering what it’s like to be a cherished family member. Khakee also had surgery to remove a mass on his side. His foster mom shared an update about the many ways Khakee has blossomed: "Khakee is a really special boy that we absolutely love. He reportedly had such a challenging life before coming to Frosted Faces and is doing remarkably well in spite of this. He is so loving and calm. He follows us all over the house, loves to snuggle on the couch, and sleep in bed. He gets very excited for mealtime and sprints around the house with zoomies in anticipation. Otherwise, Khakee tends to be very mellow and prefers to lounge around, nap, and slowly explore our backyard rather than play/run. He almost always gets in my lap and lays his head against my chest when I get home from work. He has really learned how to be a dog since coming to live with us and he seems to really be loving life now. Khakee is a great eater with a healthy appetite! He is fed kibble twice daily. He loves chicken and rice as a treat. He also loves dog treats and chews. He doesn't seem to have any guarding with his mealtime, you can pet him while he is eating and he's fine, but he likes to be left alone while chewing on his bone. He also loves his treat puzzle! Khakee seems to really love other dogs! He hasn't played with any of them off of his leash yet, but when meeting other dogs on walks or at restaurants, he does great. He seems to be fine being the only dog at our house, but I think he would also enjoy being in a home with other dogs. Khakee loves his walks! He can walk 2-3 miles at a time, and really enjoys it. He does well on the leash, walks pretty slow, and likes to sniff/explore. There are a couple of things that potential adopters should know about Khakee. First, since he only lived outdoors, he wasn't potty trained prior to coming to FF. He has come a long way, and we have found that he needs to be let out every 4 hours or so to prevent accidents. However, Khakee is able to sleep through the night without issue. The other thing is that he has a tendency to give a warning nip if you do something he does not like - namely try to pick him up or mess with his prior surgical site. Khakee has never actually bit, and it is easy to avoid doing these things for the most part, but I do think he would do best in an adult only home. Khakee is just so precious, loving, and a joy to have around. We will miss him dearly when he gets adopted." To give Khakee the life he has always deserved, please email placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Khakee, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
