My story

Meet Candy!Candy is a beautiful blue and white pit bull with gentle eyes and a heart full of love — but right now, she’s struggling in the shelter environment. At just five years old, this sweet girl has already been through more than most dogs ever should. Abandoned by her former family and left alone in a backyard for about a week, Candy was eventually discovered and brought to safety. But the trauma of being left behind has left deep emotional scars. While Candy is loving and affectionate with people, the loud and unpredictable nature of the shelter is overwhelming for her. The fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS) she experiences here are intense — she often bites at the kennel walls or hangs on the divider out of sheer frustration and confusion. She’s not thriving here. She’s shutting down.Candy needs a patient, understanding family who can offer her peace, consistency, and above all — love. A quiet home, ideally with someone experienced in helping sensitive dogs decompress, would help her begin to heal. Once she’s out of the shelter and in a calm, supportive environment, Candy has so much potential to blossom into a loyal and loving companion. She’s desperate for connection. Desperate to feel safe. Desperate to no longer be forgotten.Could you be the one to show Candy that forever really means forever?

If you have any questions or would like to adopt CANDY, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
