My story

Hi there, I’m Sweet Pea! I’m a 14-year-old gal who spent most of my life living outside in a pen—but now I’m soaking up all the warmth, softness, and love that come with being part of a real home. And honestly? I couldn’t be more thankful. My foster mom says I’m a “mellow lady with soulful eyes.” I like to take things slow and enjoy the little pleasures of the day. Some of my favorite things include: -Wandering around the downstairs for my own gentle version of perimeter patrol -Napping in my cozy crate or the soft bed in my foster mama’s office -Swinging by for under-the-chin scratches (they’re the best!) -And going on my beloved walks I may be a senior, but don’t count me out—walks are still one of my favorite parts of the day. I’d be happiest with two nice strolls a day (about 1 to 1.5 miles). I love getting outside rain or shine, sniffing the air, and seeing what’s new in the world. At home, I live peacefully with a kitty cat and a tiny toddler. My hearing and eyesight aren’t what they used to be, but I still enjoy being part of the household rhythm. The little one and I like to do slow laps between the kitchen and dining room, and I have a very respectful friendship with the cat—though I’ll let him know if he gets too close to my food bowl. I’m not a furniture dog, but I also won’t settle for the bare floor—a soft bed is a must. I love my crate and often choose to nap there during the day with the door open. It’s my little safe spot. Here are a few other things to know about me: -I’m missing a few teeth, so I prefer soft snacks and skip the hard bones. -Because I don’t see or hear super well, I can startle if someone approaches too fast—just give me a little heads-up. -Stairs are too tricky for me now, so I’m happiest on the first floor. A baby gate reminder helps keep my curiosity from getting the best of me. -I have access to a fenced yard but don’t venture out unless my foster parents come too—safety in numbers, after all! I’m fully house-trained and do best with a potty break every five hours or so during the day. At night, I sleep soundly from 9 PM to 7 AM. I’m just a gentle girl who wants a cozy home, a few good walks, and someone kind to share the days with. If you’ve got a soft bed and a soft heart, I’d love to meet you. HISTORY Sweet Pea’s prior owner was no longer able to care for her. HEALTH Sweet Pea is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Despite her age, her vet says her heart and lungs are in excellent shape, and her recent blood work all came back within the normal range.  Sweet Pea had several broken teeth removed a few months ago. She has arthritis, cataracts, and is hard of hearing but gets around fairly well and responds to visual cues when she can't hear. She takes a common daily medication for arthritis. PHYSICAL Sweet Pea has a smooth honey-brown coat with dark brown shading on her face and floppy ears. Her muzzle and cheeks appear to be speckled with powdery snow.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sweet Pea, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
