My story

Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement—Kennel License #2617Behavior Profile Color(s): OrangeOrange—Has behavior traits that require breed and/or specialized experience with dogs.Could he do well with kids? We recommend that Goose go to an adult only household.Could he do well with other dogs? Goose can be selective with other dogs. Multiple meets might be necessary.Has this dog lived with cats? Unknown. [The Lycoming County SPCA does not “cat test” dogs per the Association of Shelter Veterinarian’s Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.]---Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Goose is a powerful and energetic dog who exhibits signs of barrier frustration, often eagerly pushing through the kennel door to get outside. While he can be guided back into his kennel, he demonstrates strong pulling on the leash due to his excitement but does not jump on people. Initially, he takes a moment to warm up to new handlers and shows some sensitivity around his tail, which may lead him to chase it compulsively.During play, Goose can become overly stimulated, resulting in nipping at legs and attempting to jump at hands and arms. He loves playing with toys and may display possessive behavior, particularly with squeaky toys and tennis balls. Although Goose knows the sit cue,, his excitement can hinder his focus, and he may respond with barking and lunging when feeling pressured.Goose has a tendency to startle at everyday objects like metal dishes and umbrellas; his reactions range from curiosity to defensiveness, especially when handlers interact with these objects. In a resource guarding test, he exhibited aggressive behavior, snapping at a fake hand when prompted. In interactions with strangers, Goose shows both offensive and defensive behaviors, making it challenging to redirect his focus. He initially approaches a stranger with curiosity but can quickly escalate to trying to bite. His play with another dog, Zane, starts off a bit rough with attempts to mount, but after burning off some energy, his demeanor improves, although handlers kept hold of leashes during their interaction.---For more resources to help with any step of your adoption journey go to: https://go.petadoptiongateway.com/LycomingDT
