My story

He is an approximately 2.5-year-old pit bull mix with a heart as big as his playful personality. This special boy has overcome incredible odds, including the amputation of one of his rear legs due to multiple fractures. But don't let that fool you - Michelangelo hasn't missed a beat! He's spunky, energetic, and full of life, always ready to brighten your day. He may look scary in his cage, but that's because he has to put on that tough guy look, pictures and videos don’t lie at how truly sweet he is. Although he is a sweet guy, Michelangelo needs a home without children and requires an experienced handler. He has learned his basic commands but needs his experienced person/people to know how to continue training. Michelangelo adores his toys, especially squeaky ones, and can entertain himself for hours with his favorites. While he's respectful and calm around other dogs, he's happiest doing his own thing. Cats, however, are not his cup of tea, so a feline-free home is a must. He's a champ in his crate, fully potty trained, and ready to settle down after playtime. Michelangelo's resilience and joyful spirit make him the perfect companion for someone looking for a playful and loving dog who knows how to bounce back from life's challenges. Please note that a meet and greet with other dogs in the home is required before adoption can be completed. This dog is eligible for up to three in-home training sessions with ARF’s on-staff trainer, Kayla Scott, after adoption! Kayla has been actively working with this dog and knows their training, personality, and needs. These one-on-one sessions are a great way to ease the transition, answer questions, and help everyone start off on the right paw. The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times.
