My story

Sparkles - 12 years young, 11lbs, Chi, Neuterd  Our Team Says: "Sparkles is a gem of an older dude. He's super cute! Medically: he's doing pretty well for an older guy. He is on Tyro tabs for his tyroid and does seem to have some bronchitis that flares up once in a while but other than that he's good to go. He did get a dental recently 3/17/25, had a few teeth removed (so his tongue sticks out mostly now) and did great under anesthesia." Thier Foster Parent Says: "Sparkles AKA Seb is an older gentleman that knows what he likes. He likes to be next to me as much as possible. When I come back he does zoomies for a good 5 min. He loves a good snooze and is generally pretty chill. He has started to be more vocal however about attention and meal time, and gives me puppy eyes when I'm eating. He is super cute and has great zoomies and shows his belly when he is happy. Loves belly rubs. He is very moody about walking. He does not like to walk in the morning but is more open to it at noon and subsequent walks. Sometimes when we are walking he just stops and stares at me and I can't get him moving again without a few comforting pats to his side. My sister calls this the "reactivation" pats. Does not like walks when rainy. He definetly has a spicy side - which comes out when big dogs seem to approach him too quickly. .He is unbothered by small dogs. Though this morning he did get ruffled by the presence of a squirrel. He has also snapped a little at my sister and my friend who made quicker movements to pet him. Never biting of course, just snappy short startling growls. Notably, he only does this when I am nearby. He is a FANTASTIC traveler. Loves car rides, airports, planes. He loves it and was completely chill throughout. He was a dream!! It was such a relief to have a dog unfazed by travel." Energy LevelLow -- Couch potato, gentle walks  Cuddle Bug LevelHigh -- Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the time  Potty TrainedYes -- Few or no accidents  Comfy with strangers?Sort of -- Fine with meeting new people but not particularly interested, kind of shy in busy social situations like a gathering or a packed day in the park.  Comfortable with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision) : NOT SURE Social with Other Dogs?Likes small dogs. Okay to live with dogs. Not a huge fan of big dogs.  Respectful of Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.) - we think he would be fine with a cat  Mouthy Behavior?Low – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff -- only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones.  Leash Manners?Old Pro – Seems like a dog that has been on leash before. Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction.  Okay in the city?Yes -- Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, they may as well have been born here. Jumping on People to Say Hi?Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction.  Separation Anxiety? Nope - fine home alone, not a care in the world  Crate training? Not at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.  Medical statusOn Thyro tabs twice a day.  Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one). How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sparkles, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
