My story

I have lived with cats.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.I am looking for a home with a patient person.I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles!Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy!Eugene tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced. My foster writes: Hello, my name is Eugene! I've recently settled into my foster home and am getting comfortable here. Some of my favorite things include being petted, giving hugs, tuna, morsels in gravy, and my absolute favorite, salmon lick n'laps. I'm hoping to find a new home that's mostly quiet, as I'm a shy and quiet cat.My foster mom's roommate recently brought her cat, Tito, into the apartment. He doesn't bother me, but I prefer staying in my foster mom's room when he's around. I'm hoping we become best buddies soon. That said, I do like to wander a bit every day and explore my surroundings. What I really want is a loving owner who can give me the affection I crave.A volunteer writes: Eugene initially seemed a little baffled by my visit, but he's a can-do kind of kitty determined to give his best even if he isn't completely sure what's happening. When I first met Eugene, he was sleeping on top of his Kuranda bed. What happened next was a slow motion welcome of a cat who simply tries, which in itself is enough to win my heart. First, he looked up to sniff my hand, and then stretched his neck all the way out like a baby giraffe. He thought for a moment before leaning his perfect little cheek into my hand, only to go all out and flop on his side because what is my hand if not a pillow? Eugene welcomed me on his own time and it's a gift. Eugene looked like he wanted to hop down and would ready his little cat self to jump before deciding things were ok as they were. This is understandable especially because Eugene has had a lot of big changes recently. He lived in a home with many other cats and was brought to us after his person passed away. He's hoping for someone to give him a chance. Primary Color: Black Weight: 9.2 Age: 9yrs 5mths 3wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Eugene, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
