My story

Our little lady Ophelia has navigated a long recovery from a few issues since we got her from the shelter. The most serious was a fight with pneumonia that lasted about 3 months. She was on antibiotics for all those months. But, even after she got over the pneumonia, she had a lingering cough. We took her to a few doctors to do tests on her lungs, heart and trachea. The last doctor was her cardiologist, and she found that the heart has a hernia on the left side that is making the trachea curve. The doctor thinks she may have been born with it or the coughing could have caused it. And the doctor says Ophelia is special because the hernia usually occurs on the right side, not on the left. We already knew Ophelia was special anyway. However, the doctor said her trachea and heart were not the cause of the cough. One other current issue were moles growing around her bod but we have the moles removed and she is doing well. She also had a dental done without extractions. Even with her issues, she is a character! Everyone that meets her fall in love. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, she LOVES tummy rubs, and she LOVES eating! She'll even do a little dance for dinner and is now the “Cleanup Crew" since once done eating from her slow bowl, she walks around and politely surveys the next doggy bowl that needs “cleaning.” Ophelia gets along great with her other dogs, likes her little walks and she's putty in your hands when she turns over for her belly rubs. While she's not super energetic, she does like to be 'where the action is.' If there is no action, she's in heaven just sleeping in her bed. We would love to find her a forever home. It just takes a special family that loves giving seniors a second chance for a forever home. Email us at heartandhomerescueorg@gail.com and we will send our adoption process.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ophelia, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
