My story

Location: Gwen is located in Simi Valley, California. Out of state applicants from USA and British Columbia, Canada are considered. Transportation cost will be extra. Please Read Full Bio Before Proceeding To apply for Gwen please visit: www.animalcarezone.org/gwen or e-mail info@animalcarezone.org with any questions. What’s up! My name is Gwen and I’m looking for my forever home. I was dropped off as a stray at Animal Control but between you and me, I may have had a home before. I was on some sort of euthanasia list before I met some nice people that let me stay at a house again. It’s much better here because the shelter was very loud and distracting. In my new home with my foster dad, I’ve learned to sit, stay, and play fetch. I never pee or poop in the house, frankly, that seems a bit rude. I’ve got it down so well, and I am sure I can adapt to your schedule. I love to frolic around the backyard, chase bugs and birds, roll around on the floor, and chew on squeaky toys. I love my toys - I never tear them apart, I just like to carry them around and chomp on 'em. I have to tell you; I really love walks! SO much so, just looking at the leash makes me want to scream! If I get too excited, you can just sit and wait for me to remember that it's hard to put it on if I’m wiggling around. When I walk, I don’t pull too much but I do like to sniff. If you don’t want me sniffing around, you can tell me “Leave it” or “let’s go” and I’ll catch up! If we are walking and I see another animal, I am very curious and want to investigate. This is the only time you might have to hold my leash just a tad tighter. Recently I had a training session where I was introduced to another pup, and I did well walking on leash with the other dog in my presence. I have no problem walking along with you, following your lead, stopping at the ends of streets, etc. And if I make a mistake, you can just take a step back and I’ll trot over and try again no problem! When my human leaves for work, sometimes I get anxious, but I am learning how to calm down. I may bark for a little bit because I miss him but I am learning to keep myself busy by playing with my toys and licking the entire peanut butter mat clean before my foster dad returns. As of now I am not crate trained and I do not like staying behind a gated area either. Rest assured though, I have been in my foster dad’s home for 2 weeks and I am not at all destructive even when left alone. Nevertheless, my foster dad will work on making me feel comfortable in a crate and behind a dog gate. I feel much better if there’s a human around, so if you work from home or have a hybrid schedule, that would be my dream. Or maybe you can just take me with you, I won't be a problem in the car, I promise. My ideal home is with someone who has time for me. Are you counting your steps? I require daily exercise; I'll make sure you not only meet but but exceed your daily steps goal if you walk with me. Sure, I am totally chill just lounging on my own, but I would love for someone else to want me around as much as I want them! My foster dad wants me to tell you that I am such a good girl and super trainable. He’s been bragging to all his friends, coworkers, and neighbors about me! Everyone who meets me is smitten by how my floppy helicopter ears bounce around when I go on walks. I get many compliments from strangers on my demeanor and personality. I can't wait to show you what a good girl I am. I am just want to share all the love I have with a family who will cherish me in return. *Side note from the founder of ACZ - We do not understand how such well-tempered dogs like Gwen end up at the dog pound. There are so many dogs like her at shelters in California. The state is going through a crisis, where adoptable dogs are being put down daily. Please adopt a shelter dog today and save their life [literally...] To apply for Gwen please visit: www.animalcarezone.org/gwen or e-mail info@animalcarezone.org with any questions.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Gwen, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
