My story

Chester von Coswig is a stunning, 18-month-old black-and-red German Shepherd. This handsome, sturdy-built boy is not just another pretty face; he's eager to learn and show off his smarts! Chester is the perfect companion for an active individual or a family that loves outdoor adventures. He's housebroken and already mastering basic commands such as "sit" and "down," and will even offer a paw to make sure you're impressed. He's very treat-motivated but makes sure to take treats gently, showcasing his eagerness to please. With an experienced handler, he will walk nicely on a leash, and then can walk politely with other dogs. In off-leash playgroups, Chester meets other bigger dogs well (he's a no for small dogs). He can at times be a delightful goofball, even inviting dogs to play, but he won't fail to take breaks to ask for love and attention from his human friends. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
