My story

Meet Bella. We rescued this 6yo girl from the e-list at MCACC in the summer of 2024. Because she's a little more mature, Bella can take some time to adjust to new people and she can be a little slow to trust at first. She loves people once she gets to know them, but she's just been given up on before and gets a little scared to put her heart out there as a result. Bella was adopted for several months recently and returned to us over resource guarding. Her fosters had never seen this behavior from her (and still haven't), so they aren't too sure how to work with her on it, but can definitely give an adopter all the information needed for a smooth transition. Bella has other dogs, large and small, in her foster home and though she isn't always the most outgoing playmate, she does enjoy their company. She really, really loves her toys and can guard them from the other dogs on occasion, but hasn't progressed to fights.  Bella does have some separation anxiety and may cry and try to escape when left home alone (if she has access to the outdoors). Her foster has not kept her in a crate and she is not destructive. Bella will not miss the opportunity to lounge and cuddle on the couch and she will rarely turn down a good belly rub - she really does love her humans when she gets to know them and just wants to be near someone familiar! She is fully potty trained and responds well to verbal corrections if she is doing something she shouldn’t be. Overall Bella has a low and calm energy which she shows off during walks with very minimal leash pulling. Bella is in a foster home where she interacts very well with both the large and small dogs of the family. While Bella is an affectionate girl, she is not a fan of being physically pushed / moved, or having her paws and tail touched. She was e-listed originally after being surrendered by the only family she ever knew from a bite caused by them physically pushing her and her turning to react. This bite did not break skin, showing that it was clearly a reaction and not an intent to harm, and is the reason we have been so willing to give this sweet girl a chance. An adult-only home would be best for Bella, though teenagers and up who understand boundaries and dog behavior may also be ok. A calm and quiet home would be the perfect atmosphere for sweet Bella to thrive! https://azhuskyrescue.com/adoption-application/

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bella, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
