My story

Meet Luka! Luka beautiful 2-year-old Husky / Shepherd mix was rescued from the euthanasia list at MCACC. He's an incredibly sweet, happy, playful boy with a lot of puppy-like tendencies. He was adopted from the shelter and returned multiple times for being a bit too much, but the most recent time he unfortunately was able to grab a neighbor's cat that darted right in front of him on a walk, and the cat did not make it. The adopted returned him and he was e-listed as a result of this incident. This was, of course, a terrible tragedy for all involved. But, given the high prey drive of these breeds, we did not think it should be a death sentence for Luka. He plays great with other dogs and loves all humans - we saw a big puppy boy who needs to be in a home with no cats, and who needs to work on his house manners. A foster thankfully stepped up, and we were able to save Luka's life.  Luka settled in very quickly with his foster and has shown that he has a lot of energy and wants nothing more than to play and run. He is very curious and likes to explore his surroundings and play with all the toys. He absolutely loves people and wants to introduce himself to everyone on walks. He does pull when he sees people and other dogs, but that is not unexpected for the breed and age. Luka has shown that he really just wants to play with other medium to large dogs - we think small dogs would probably be too much for his energy levels. He would love to be around other dogs who don’t mind the energy and excitement that this boy has. Luka has done a great job in a crate and has had no issues with being in one. His adopter should be prepared to get him plenty of exercise and to work with him longterm on manner (he just gets so excited!) and house rules. He wants to please and he looks forward to being your best friend and good boy. The ideal home for Luka would be with a young and active individual or couple, and he would do great with other playful dogs, or even as a single dog if he's not left home alone for too long of hours every day. The biggest factor for Luka is having a family who is willing to work out his energy with lots of runs and walks and give him plenty of attention. He would also make an excellent hiking partner for any avid explorer. We also think he would do great with older children and teenagers. If you are ready to make Luka a part of your pack please fill out an adoption application on our website: https://azhuskyrescue.com/adoption-application/

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Luka, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
