My story

There’s a quiet, radiant gentleness about Hope—a softness that stands out in the bustling energy of our shelter. This three-year-old Pitbull Terrier mix arrived on August 1, 2024, painfully thin at just 38 pounds, her ribs a map of struggle. But with time, love, and a few hearty meals, Hope has filled out, showing the world what resilience and care can do. We don’t know how she came to be abandoned on Borzik Road in Saucier, Mississippi, but we do know one thing: her future is brighter than her past. Hope is the perfect blend of playful and calm, an ideal companion for just about any lifestyle. She’s a quick learner who already knows sit, lay down, stay, wait, and come—especially when there’s a bacon-flavored treat involved! Leash walks with Hope are effortless, and her gentle nature makes her a dream to handle, whether you’re 5 or 80. Her enthusiasm shines when she spots other dogs—she’s always ready to make a new friend! Hope also does fine around cats!Hope has tested positive for heartworms, but thanks to her dear friends at Inside Outside Kitchen Design, her treatment has been FULLY SPONOSRED through HSSM`s Wellness Clinic! Hope has been waiting patiently for her person, someone who sees her for the sweet, resilient soul she is. Could that be you? Come meet her at the Humane Society of South Mississippi, located at 2615 25th Avenue in Gulfport. We’re open Tuesday through Friday, 10 AM to 5 PM, and Saturdays, 10 AM to 4 PM. Hope is here, wagging her tail and waiting for her chance to bring love into your life.
