Meet Athena – A Gentle Soul Ready for Her Second ChanceAt just 4 months old, Athena is already a survivor with a story to tell. This Retriever/Lab mix puppy has the kindest eyes you’ll ever see—the kind that whisper of resilience, growth, and an unwavering hope for a brighter future. Since arriving at the Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) on April 19th, 2025, Athena has shown us that with a little love, a few tasty treats, and consistent positive reinforcement, anything is possible.Surrendered by her previous owner simply because they didn’t want her, we’re still scratching our heads trying to figure out why—because Athena is pure perfection. She’s got a laid-back personality, a sweet spirit, and the best puppy manners around. And let’s not forget her specialty: Athena gives the most heart-melting puppy kisses you`ll ever receive.Beyond her loving personality, Athena is also fully vetted, up to date on all vaccinations, and will be spayed upon adoption. She`s a healthy, happy pup just waiting for the right person—or family—to walk through our doors and see what we see: a once-in-a-lifetime kind of dog.So what are you waiting for?
