My story

Hi! My name is Bear, and I am IN LOS ANGELES looking for my forever home! My story is different than other Dove Project dog meat trade survivors. I was rescued from a shelter in Riverside, CA after being on the euthanasia list. I am so happy that I am now safe and secure! I am waiting for my family to find me! I am such a good boy and would love to spend the rest of my life giving my loving family lots of kisses. I was fostered for a bit by a family that has a sweet 3-year-old little girl; one of my best friends! I am very playful and love playing fetch and chasing after frisbees! love being outdoors and going on adventures. More details about me BREED: We think Bear is a McNab Collie (Shepherd) Mix. AGE: Approximately 1 year 5 month (approx DOB 5/1/23). WEIGHT: About 45 pounds HEALTH: I am up to date with all my shots and neutered. My rabies shot expires on 4/30/25 BEHAVIOR: I am affectionate with my humans, and accept petting from strangers. As with all dogs, I will need leadership and redirection if I become too excited. HIS RESCUERS SAY THIS ABOUT BEAR - This gorgeous German Shepherd mix has a heart of gold that no photo can truly capture, but fate hasn’t been kind to him. At just ONE year old, this sweet boy found himself dumped on the streets like yesterday’s trash, fighting to survive until police discovered him - skinny, starving, but never losing his gentle spirit. His personality? Pure sunshine! ☀️ Bear is many things including: - Fetch enthusiast extraordinaire 🎾 - Professional dog friend & social butterfly 🦋 - Master of gentle cuddles 🫂 - Certified good boy with a tragic past 💫 When I found Bear on the euthanasia list over a simple runny nose, my heart shattered. Thanks to @DoveProject making a miracle exception, he got a second chance. But now he needs YOU to give him his forever home. This boy is a DIAMOND in the rough. Bear deserves a family who will see past his photos and discover the incredible companion he truly is. Here’s the heartbreaking truth: Bear’s been overlooked simply because he doesn’t take good picture because of his black coat, but trust me - in person, he’s absolutely STUNNING. ****************************** ABOUT SHELTER STRESS Dogs who have lived in shelters for a long period develop behaviors due to an environment that is loud, chaotic, and stressful, even in the best shelters in the US. Dogs in shelters have limited socialization exposure to people and urban environments. DoVE dogs also come from a traumatic background such as dog meat farms and slaughterhouses. While many dogs acclimate within a few months with consistency, structure, and patience, some more sensitive dogs can take longer to rehabilitate. It's important to note that these sensitive dogs are even more attuned to human emotions and behavior, making for a deeper human-dog connection.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bear IN LA!!, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
