My story

Dog Name: Cowboy Breed: pit bull mix Sex: male Age: 3.5 years (DOB 9/24/21) Weight: approx 45 lbs Medical Needs: he does have sensitive skin but is doing well on his current “no chicken” diet. Housebroken: yes, he does great with a schedule Crate trained: when he first came in as a foster he sang songs that reminded us of Scuttle from the Little Mermaid. After a week he settled down and knows the crate is for when the humans are gone (and for bedtime) and is quiet as long as he cannot see you. Good in the car: he loves car rides! He’ll jump right in. Good on a leash: he does fantastic on a leash as long as you utilize a prong collar. Cowboy will walk calmly next to you (or run if that’s what you’re into). Energy level: medium to high. He’d love someone to take him on runs, long walks, and play ball with him. Dog Friendly: yes, but he gets WAY too overstimulated and excited and needs a very slow meet. If your dog is on “hype man” mode all the time, they will not be a good match for Cowboy. He needs a low and slow companion that won’t rile him up, and an adoptive home that understands how to ease him SLOWLY into their household and teach him manners. Starting with co-walking and working up to 100% cohabitation over time has worked great for us. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No. Cat Friendly: yes, but his adoptive home would need to have VERY dog-savvy cats. One of Cowboy’s favorite pastimes is to run through the house, charging at the cats and come to a screeching halt a hair’s distance from them so he can gently boop them. Kid Friendly: yes If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Old enough to not get knocked over. Cowboy is ALL clumsy, and would accidentally knock a small human over when he’s galavanting through the house toward the cats (or squeaky ball). Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them: Cowboy is a trim guy with a big head, and a big personality to match! He LOVES prancing through the house with his squeaky ball, or chewing on his Benebone in his crate. He sits handsomely before leaving the house, and loves trying to play with the cats (but they’re rude and won’t play fetch with his ball). Cowboy’s name fits him perfectly; he would love nothing more than to be outside running trails and camping, or going on adventures in the car. His paperwork says 3.5 years, but you’d think he was fresh out of puppyhood with all the spunk he has. He’s got a sassy attitude and has selective hearing at times, but his lovable head tilt with that big noggin’ wins us over even when he’s ignoring us harder than the huskies do. If you’re looking for a ride or die companion to be the shotgun rider for all your adventures, Cowboy is here ready to saddle up and go! Fosters Location: Dover, DE Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file, email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app) ##1216697##
