My story

Meet Toby! He is a 2 yr old neutered male mix of German Shepherd/Australian Kelpie mix that weighs 70lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/17 due to his owner moving and was unable or unwilling to take him with them. This sweet boy doesn’t like being stuck in a kennel so much and it shows in his anxiety. He jumps quite a bit on you to get out of his kennel, and continues to do so until he is in the shelter yard and runs off his energy. He loves when someone throws balls so he can chase and bring them back. He will even find stuffed toys to throw up in the air to entertain himself. And though he wants you to throw them, he is slightly protective over them. Toby is not fond of the leash, so it`s difficult to get a leash on him, and one main reason is he knows it’s a sign he has to go back to his kennel, and he doesn’t want to. He has a lot of energy, and excitement, but he will need additional training to help with his jumping, leash training and occasionally he can be mouthy. Due to this it would be best that he not be in a home with children or elderly. Having someone to keep him active, and help him learn to not jump or see a leash in a positive way, is what he will need. Also please ask the shelter for a dog test if there will be another dog in the home. Toby has a lot of soft fluffy fur, which he will definitely need continued grooming to keep him comfy. Can you offer him the life of living indoors where he can stay cool, and learn to be the best pup he can be, please come meet him.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Toby, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
