Orzo is a Domestic Short Hair (DSH)-mix, male, DOB: 8/27/23. Calm, quiet, somewhat reserved with people he isn’t familiar with, it is accurate to say, Orzo is a cat who is more easy to please and undemanding, than independent; and more discerning and looking to operate in his comfort zone, than shy. Content to be hanging-out and observing activities most of the time rather than being right-up in the action or the center of attention, make no mistake about it, Orzo is an affectionate cat who still loves one-on-one playtime with his people. Intelligent and highly-sensitive, it is, as we said, very important for Orzo to feel comfortable in his surroundings before letting his guard down, but once he does, his confidence as well as his friendly, engaging personality is enthusiastically revealed. While independent exploring is a favored pastime of Orzo's as well as being able to lounge in a sunny, favored spot (usually from a perch), we think you should know that he can be plied to lose any inhibitions with playful interaction and toys, particularly interactive play with feathered toys. Orzo came to Monroe SPCA as part of a litter of four: Lira, Cannoli, and Luca, born as a surprise litter to a family who couldn't support four more cats. He spent his first few months in Monroe SPCA in a foster home being bottle feed as needed, and was treated for fleas, Giardia, Coccidia, and Roundworm while in our care. Once the litter was weaned, we were able to assist in getting mom spayed. Now a happy, healthy feline, Orzo is looking for his forever home with a family who can give him the time and attention a young cat needs. Although Luca can be adopted individually, we recommend a pairing with several of our other young cats having compatible personalities and temperament. Orzo is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a calm, low-active to moderately active lifestyle and no active young children under the age of six (6). He is comfortable with other compatible cats and kittens, and he’ll be comfortable in the presence of well-mannered, cat-friendly dogs after being given some adjustment time to warm-up and settle into his new surroundings. As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable animals, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption. Orzo currently resides at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center and Retail Store. You can meet him by appointment with pre-approved adoption application. To start the adoption process, complete and submit Monroe SPCA’s adoption application linked above. All Monroe SPCA cats available for adoption have an adoption fee of $85.00. This fee includes the cat being spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, dewormed, tested for FeLV and FIV, and microchipped with lifelong registration prior to adoption. Completed applications can be emailed to info@monroespca.org or dropped off at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center and Retail Store located at 293 W. Monroe Street, Dundee, MI. For more information message us on Facebook or email info@monroespca.org.
