My story

Meet Tomato! This sweet and spunky 3-year-old, 48-pound girl is full of love, smarts, and quirky charm—and she’s ready to find a forever home that’s just as special as she is.Tomato is currently thriving in her foster home, where she’s shown off both her playful side and her snuggle skills. She loves being near her people—whether she’s stretched out at your feet, curled up under your desk, or lounging nearby while you relax. Her foster family says she’s not overly needy but always wants to be close, and she’s happy to soak up gentle affection and companionship. While Tomato can be fearful of new things and startles easily, she’s completely at ease in calm, familiar spaces. Walks are still scary for her, and she currently prefers yard time rather than venturing beyond the driveway. A secure, fenced-in yard would be ideal for this girl, both for potty breaks and her favorite activity: fetch. Tomato is a serious fetch pro—her tail wags her whole body when she plays, and she’ll happily chase a toy down the hall 20 times in a row without getting bored. Her favorite toy is a rope with a flexible plastic core, which she loves to chew and tug on for hours.Tomato is incredibly smart and eager to learn. She’s already mastered “sit,” “paw,” and “other paw,” picking up commands quickly with the help of tasty treats. She’s fully house-trained (with just one accident after a nighttime sleep-in), crate-trained (though she may cry a bit when left alone), and used to living in a home. This girl has also been out on a `Dogs Day Out` adventure with BARCS volunteers. She chose a quiet home setting and soaked up every minute—gentle, affectionate, and full of cuddles. She met young children (ages 6 and 7) and was sweet and appropriate with them, preferring belly rubs and bonding time to toys.Tomato has previously lived with kids (ages 8 and 10) and loves playing with them. She’s full of joyful energy when it’s playtime, though she’s strong and could accidentally bump into small children during games. She takes treats gently and loves being petted by kids.Tomato has met other dog friends at BARCS and she prefers gentle, respectful dogs. She would do well with calm dog friends. This affectionate, athletic, and goofy girl has so much love to give. She’ll thrive in a calm, patient home with a fenced yard and people who appreciate her unique blend of snuggles and zoomies. If you`d like to meet her, complete an application and emai

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Tomato, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
